Goodbye to the CNH: The Confirmation of Better News for Owners of These Vehicles, with the End of the Document
For those who own certain vehicles, the recent news about the end of the CNH has come as a true relief. It’s not every day we see a decision that, besides making life easier, also gives some breathing room in the budget. This change in legislation, confirmed by Resolution No. 996/2023 of Contran, promises to directly impact the daily lives of those who use mopeds, bicycles, and electric scooters.
The National Driver’s License (CNH) has always been an essential document for every driver; after all, without it, driving vehicles is simply illegal. But the news that, in certain cases, the CNH will no longer be required is making many drivers breathe a sigh of relief.
End of the CNH
Imagine the scene: you, using an electric bicycle or a limited-speed moped, will no longer have to shell out cash to renew your CNH. It sounds like a dream, but it’s reality! This change is part of a government effort to encourage the use of more sustainable and accessible vehicles, which, let’s face it, is quite welcome.

On the other hand, according to the ‘BM&C News’ portal, it’s important to stay alert: if you drive cars, motorcycles, or any other larger vehicles, the CNH remains essential. In other words, this new rule is a benefit directed to a specific group, but not to everyone.
The Differences Between Vehicles
It is essential to understand which vehicles benefit from this new regulation. Mopeds, for example, are those vehicles with two or three wheels and engines that do not exceed 50 cm³ and have a maximum speed of 50 km/h. If your vehicle fits this profile, you are free from the CNH.
Now, if you ride a bicycle – that powered by human force and with two wheels – rest easy, as besides not needing a CNH, you will also be contributing to a cleaner environment and to your own health.
And What About Those with an Expired CNH?
Of course, we cannot overlook the other side of the coin. If you have a vehicle that still requires a CNH and are thinking about driving around with an expired document, it’s best to reconsider. The infraction is serious, with a fine of R$293.47 and the loss of 7 points on your license. Even worse, if you insist on driving with an expired CNH, you risk losing your right to drive and will have to redo the entire process to regain your license.
The confirmation of the end of the CNH for certain vehicles is undoubtedly good news for many, but not for everyone. It’s a change that brings relief, yes, but requires attention to know if you qualify or not for this new rule. And if your CNH is still necessary, keep it up to date to avoid headaches. After all, traffic demands responsibility, and that hasn’t changed!
