With An Investment Of R$ 299 Million, The New Maternity Hospital In Palmas Will Have 210 Beds, A Unique Obstetric ICU, And Will Be The First PPP In Health In Tocantins
Tocantins will gain a new maternity hospital. The State Government authorized on Tuesday, May 6, the beginning of the construction of the Women’s Hospital and State Maternity Hospital in Palmas.
The signing of the Service Order was attended by authorities such as the Vice President of the Senate and President of the PL in Tocantins, Eduardo Gomes, Governor Wanderlei Barbosa, Mayor of Palmas, Eduardo Siqueira Campos, and the President of the Legislative Assembly, Deputy Amélio Cayres.
During the ceremony, the Mayor of Palmas personally handed over the installation license for the new unit. The gesture was celebrated by Eduardo Gomes. “I made a point of being here for important and symbolic things. Life begins at maternity,” said the senator.

He announced that after the delivery of the new hospital, the current Hospital Dona Regina will be donated to the municipality of Palmas. The proposal came from Senator Eduardo Gomes.
The new Women’s Hospital will be realized through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the first in the health sector in Tocantins.
The total investment is R$299 million. The new facility will replace Hospital Dona Regina, with an increase of more than 60% in capacity. The unit will have 210 beds and a new Maternity House for Pregnant Women, Babies, and Postpartum Women, with 20 slots.
The hospital will also include a unique obstetric-gynecological ICU in the State. Neonatal ICU beds will also be expanded. The project includes a helipad, as well as the maintenance of services such as the Human Milk Bank and Savis, which serves victims of sexual violence.
The company Opy Healthcare was the winner of the bidding held at the B3 Stock Exchange in São Paulo. It will be responsible for the construction, purchase of equipment, and management of the hospital’s physical structure for 30 years. Clinical management will remain under the State’s responsibility.
The hospital’s delivery is scheduled for 24 months from now. The contract stipulates that the company will only begin receiving payment for services after the unit is fully equipped and operational.
