Paraná records lowest temperature of 2026 with 3.9°C and occurrence of frost in cities in the south of the state.
Paraná recorded, on the morning of Tuesday (28), the lowest temperature of the year 2026 so far, with 3.9°C in Palmas. The data was released by Simepar and is related to the arrival of a cold air mass that advanced after the passage of a cold front on Monday (27). The phenomenon caused a sharp drop in thermometers, in addition to the formation of frost in municipalities in the southern region of the state.
Paraná records frost and lowest temperature of the year in several cities
In addition to Palmas, other locations near the border with Santa Catarina also faced low temperatures and weak frost formation. Among the affected municipalities are Mariópolis, General Carneiro, and Clevelândia.
These weather conditions are typical of the action of more intense cold air masses, especially in the higher regions of the state. The frost record indicates that the temperature near the ground was even lower than the officially measured values.

Temperature drop affects various regions of Paraná
Simepar data shows that the cold was not restricted to a single city. In total, 17 weather stations recorded the lowest temperatures of the year on the same day.
Check out some of the main records from Tuesday (28):
| City | Temperature (°C) |
|---|---|
| Palmas | 3.9 |
| Francisco Beltrão | 5.4 |
| General Carneiro | 6.5 |
| Pato Branco | 8.0 |
| Foz do Iguaçu | 8.3 |
| União da Vitória | 8.8 |
| Pinhão | 9.4 |
| Capanema | 10.3 |
| Cascavel | 11.4 |
| Toledo | 11.9 |
In addition, cities like Guaratuba (18.5°C) and Paranaguá (18.7°C) also recorded a drop compared to previous days, although with higher temperatures due to coastal influence.
Simepar’s explanation about the cold in Paraná
According to meteorologist Lizandro Jacóbsen from Simepar, the cooling was caused by the entry of cold air behind the cold front that moved to the state of São Paulo.
“The cold air mass mainly affected the Paraná cities bordering Santa Catarina on this Tuesday,” he explained.
He also highlighted that in other regions, the drop in temperatures occurred due to the presence of clouds and rain, which reduce the incidence of solar radiation.
Instability keeps weather closed on Wednesday (29)
The forecast indicates that the weather remains unstable in the state on Wednesday (29). An atmospheric system at altitude maintains the flow of humid air, favoring the formation of heavy clouds.
According to Simepar, there is a possibility of:
- Rain showers with lightning
- Localized storms
- Strong wind gusts
- Hail in some regions
The most susceptible areas include the Northwest, North, Campos Gerais, and the Eastern region. According to the forecast, the most intense events may occur in the morning in the western regions of the state. As the day progresses, the instability tends to spread to other areas.
There is a higher risk of strong winds in the northern strip, while regions like Campos Gerais and the East may record episodes of hail. This condition reinforces the scenario of unstable weather in practically the entire territory of Paraná.

Temperatures will rise again starting Thursday (30)
The trend is for a gradual change in the weather starting Thursday (30). The instabilities begin to lose strength, allowing the return of the sun in various regions.
In the early morning, there will still be cloud presence, but throughout the afternoon the weather tends to become clearer. Minimum temperatures should hover around 10°C in the southern region. Meanwhile, maximums can exceed 22°C throughout the state, reaching 28°C in the western and northern regions.
Paraná should have higher temperatures on the May 1st holiday
The gradual rise in thermometers should continue until the Friday holiday (1st/05). The forecast indicates that this will be the warmest period of the week throughout the state.
With the decrease in rain and increased sun presence, the weather tends to become more stable, marking the end of the intense cold episode recorded at the beginning of the week.
The climatic scenario in Paraná throughout this week is marked by rapid changes. The arrival of the cold air mass caused the lowest temperature of the year, with frost in some regions, followed by instability and forecast of storms.
In the following days, the trend is for gradual warming, highlighting the typical variation of weather conditions during this time of year.
