With an Investment of R$ 35.6 Million, Pedras Grandes (SC) Will Have the Paving of the Thermal Water Highway and One of the Largest Thermal Resorts in Brazil, Strengthening Tourism and Regional Development.
The city of Pedras Grandes, located in the South of Santa Catarina, is about to undergo a significant transformation in tourism and regional development. The municipality will receive R$ 35.6 million in investments for the paving of the Thermal Water Highway, a project that also paves the way for the construction of one of the largest thermal resorts in the country.
The announcement was made by Mayor Agnaldo Filippi, who presented the project to Governor Jorginho Mello (PL), in partnership with Amurel (Association of Municipalities of the Laguna Region).
According to Filippi, the initiative represents a milestone for the city’s future: “This is a project that brings together history, tourism, and development. We want to turn this road into a new axis of prosperity for the city and region.”

Strategic Road Will Connect Communities and Boost Regional Tourism
The new Thermal Water Highway will connect the localities of Azambuja and Ribeirão d’Areia, enhancing the historical and natural heritage of Pedras Grandes.
In addition, it will facilitate access from neighboring municipalities, such as Urussanga, Cocal do Sul, Morro da Fumaça, and Treze de Maio.
According to information from Diário do Comércio, the paving aims to transform the municipality into a national reference in rural, historical, and thermal tourism, leveraging the region’s natural potential.
The São João General Road will also receive improvements, with asphalt paving and the implementation of bike lanes, as detailed in the technical study by Amurel — a document of about 200 pages that has already been submitted to the Ministry of Regional Development, in Brasília.
The Rebirth of the Historic Thermas São Pedro
Among the planned developments along the Thermal Water Highway, the highlight is the rebirth of the old Thermas São Pedro Hotel, which will return in a modern and sustainable version.
The project is being led by the Sartor family, responsible for reviving the tradition of the space, which had been closed for decades.
The new resort will feature water parks, high-standard hospitality, green areas, and a focus on ecological and thermal tourism.
The expectation is that the venture will attract visitors from all over Brazil and contribute to strengthening the local economy. “We are witnessing the rebirth of the old Thermas São Pedro, which will put Pedras Grandes back on the thermal tourism map of Santa Catarina,” said the mayor.
The Thermal Water Highway will be the main access to the attractions that the municipality intends to establish as a destination for leisure and well-being.
Along the route, tourists will be able to explore thermal springs, natural pools, ecological trails, and areas of environmental preservation, discovering a territory of lush nature and living history.
With the investment, Pedras Grandes aims to combine economic development and environmental sustainability, promoting job opportunities and income generation without losing focus on environmental preservation.
Political Support Strengthens the Creation of the Thermal Water Tourist Route
The paving and revitalization project of the Thermal Water Highway has political and institutional support. Federal Deputy Geovania de Sá and State Deputy Pepê Collaço are among the key figures involved.
Collaço even presented a project in the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina (Alesc) proposing the official creation of the Thermal Water Tourist Route, integrating the region into the state tourism circuit.
For Geovania de Sá, the impact of the investment will be decisive: “This route highlights the natural beauties and will further boost tourism in Pedras Grandes, which we are already supporting.”
Pedras Grandes Aims for the Future with a Focus on Tourism and Development
With the paving of the Thermal Water Highway, the revival of Thermas São Pedro, and consolidated political support, Pedras Grandes is taking a firm step towards a new cycle of growth.
The project reinforces the commitment to sustainable tourism, the appreciation of local heritage, and the improvement of infrastructure for residents and visitors.
The investment of R$ 35.6 million represents more than just a roadway project: it is a bet on the city’s natural vocation and the strength of tourism as a development engine.
By uniting tradition, nature, and innovation, Pedras Grandes is preparing to become one of the most promising thermal and ecological destinations in Brazil.
