Oil multinationals NOV, TechnipFMC and Baker are the favorites in Petrobras' bid for the acquisition of flexible pipelines
The Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has launched a tender for the supply of the material, which will have to be non-susceptible to the SCC-CO2 phenomenon. The contract will be for the acquisition of up to 291,9 km of special flexible lines for the offshore fields of Búzios, Tupi, Sapinhoá, Atapu, Berbigão and Sururu, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.

The public tender will mark the first acquisition of lines of this type by the company. Each interested company will present its own internally developed solution.
Due to Petrobras having faced wear problems in the cluster's pipelines, the state-owned company aims to acquire new lines for the pre-salt layer that have a useful life limit compatible with the duration of the production projects.
Tender for the acquisition of flexible pipelines
It is stated in the bidding that the required lines will need to have at least 20 years of useful life. In recent tenders, Petrobras has been requesting pipelines with 3,6 and 5,6 years.
With proposals scheduled for April 8 of this year, the bid was divided into three lots and the market is betting, however, that the date will be postponed.
According to the report, the tender will be conducted under the lowest price model, and the company that presents the best qualification and delivery schedule will have an advantage in the competition.
The market estimates that the supply of the first batch lines will not occur before 2023, since the technical solution will still have to be developed and qualified together with Petrobras.
NOV, TechnipFMC and Baker are seen as the favorite companies
The bidding seeks to solve the problem of flexible gas injection riser and production lines with high CO2 concentration.
The contracts for each lot will be exclusive, having to be signed by different groups. NOV, TechnipFMC and Baker are seen as the favorite companies.
Each auction lot will have around 97 km of flexible lines. The winners of the contract must manufacture the new pipelines in Brazil.
Currently, when the project has a large concentration of CO2, Petrobras uses rigid lines for gas injection, while the service lines are made with flexible ones. After having the definitive solution qualified and approved, the oil company will contract flexible lines for these systems again.
