The Oil Multinationals NOV, TechnipFMC, and Baker Are the Favorites in Petrobras’ Bid for the Acquisition of Flexible Pipelines
The Brazilian oil giant Petrobras launched a bid for the supply of material, which must be non-susceptible to the SCC-CO2 phenomenon. The contract will be for the acquisition of up to 291.9 km of special flexible lines for the offshore fields of Búzios, Tupi, Sapinhoá, Atapu, Berbigão, and Sururu, located in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin.

The state-owned company’s bidding process will mark its first acquisition of such lines. Each interested company will present its own internally developed solution.
Due to Petrobras facing wear issues with the cluster’s pipelines, the state company aims to acquire new lines for the pre-salt that have a lifespan compatible with the duration of production projects.

Bid for the Acquisition of Flexible Pipelines
The bid indicates that the required lines need to have at least 20 years of lifespan. In recent tenders, Petrobras had been requesting pipelines with 3.6 and 5.6 years.
Proposal submissions are set for April 8 of this year, and the bidding was divided into three lots, although the market bets that the date will be postponed.
According to the announcement, the bidding will be conducted under the lowest price model, and the company that presents the best qualification and delivery schedule will have an advantage in the competition.
The market estimates that the supply of lines from the first lot will not occur before 2023, as the technical solution still needs to be developed and qualified with Petrobras.
NOV, TechnipFMC, and Baker Are Seen as the Favorite Companies
The bidding aims to resolve the issue of flexible pipelines for the gas injection riser and production lines with high CO2 concentration.
The contracts for each lot will be exclusive, requiring different groups to sign them. NOV, TechnipFMC, and Baker are seen as the favorite companies.
Each lot of the bidding will consist of approximately 97 km of flexible lines. The winning contractors will be required to manufacture the new pipelines in Brazil.
Currently, when the project has a high concentration of CO2, Petrobras uses rigid lines for gas injection, while service lines are made with flexible ones. After the definitive solution is qualified and approved, the oil company will again contract flexible lines for these systems.
