The First Three Months of 2022 Were Marked by Significant Growth in Processing Oil Extracted from Petrobras’ Pre-Salt Fields, and the State-Owned Company Set a Record in the Activities of National Refineries

Petrobras released a report last Tuesday (05/17), confirming a record in the processing operations of oil extracted from the pre-salt in its Brazilian refineries. Thus, the company also emphasized that the resource extracted from these fields has a low sulfur content and greater ease of processing, which guarantees even greater potential for expansion in activities. Finally, the projections for 2022 regarding operations are quite optimistic on the part of the state-owned company.

The First Quarter of 2022 Features Expansion in Processing Pre-Salt Oil from Petrobras, and Brazilian Refineries of the State-Owned Company Set Record Activities

Petrobras has been achieving excellent results over the past years regarding the expansion of its activities in Brazilian fields and announced another significant milestone achieved this week. This is because the state-owned company released a report on the processing activities of oil extracted directly from the pre-salt fields and confirmed a record reached in operations at its Brazilian refineries during these first three months of 2022.

Thus, during the 1st quarter of 2022, on average, 65% of the oil processed at the company’s refineries originated from the Brazilian pre-salt, a mark never before reached by the company during a period of just three months. In addition, the state-owned company also achieved other records in recent months in its national refineries. During February 2022, the monthly record for volume processed from the pre-salt was reached, with 66%, a highly expressive growth compared to the year 2016, for example, when the company achieved a result of only 27%.

And Petrobras took the moment to highlight that these results in Brazilian refineries are only being achieved due to the strong investments being made in national parks. The company has been investing millions of reais in recent months to ensure operational and logistical improvements and is already receiving the results of the initiative. This is the company’s main objective for its expansion in the national market during 2022, and the record in oil processing has secured new projections for the coming months.

State-Owned Company Highlights That Low Sulfur Content of Oil Extracted from Pre-Salt Fields Is the Main Reason for Good Results in Fuel Processing

In addition to improvements in logistics and technology in Petrobras’ Brazilian refineries over the past months, the company’s report also highlighted other operational characteristics that led to the achieved records. Thus, the state-owned company stated that the low sulfur content of the pre-salt oil ensures greater ease in processing operations and provides much more agility throughout the entire processing chain of the fuel in the refineries.

Moreover, this oil also guarantees higher yields in the production of medium derivatives, since the volume of pre-salt oil, when compared to post-salt oil, allows for a much higher production of Jet A (Aviation Kerosene) and Diesel. These are the main derivatives in the national market today, and the guarantee of greater productivity means that the state-owned company invests in these fields in Brazil.

Finally, the company’s report highlighted that “The increase in the share of these oils among those processed at Petrobras’ refineries results from the growth in pre-salt production and the appreciation of the derivatives produced from it. The choice is made seeking to combine the best economic results with meeting Petrobras’ customer needs.”
