The New Contract Signed Between Petrobras and Foresea Provides for the Operation of the Drilling Ship That Will Drill in Deep Waters Up to 3,000 Meters
Petrobras, a giant in the oil industry, has signed a three-year contract worth a total of 450 million dollars with the drilling company Foresea for the operation of the 6th generation drillship, Norbe VIII. This news was announced by the supplier in a statement last Tuesday, demonstrating a significant investment in the offshore drilling sector, according to the website Portos e Navios.
The Norbe VIII, built in 2011, is an offshore drilling platform used by Petrobras with dynamic positioning, meaning it can operate in water depths of up to 3,000 meters and drill offshore wells with impressive depths of up to 12,195 meters. The highlight of this platform is that it was the first in Brazil to allow drilling in water depths below 500 meters using only dynamic positioning, eliminating the need for anchoring.
Expansion and Growth in the Drilling Sector with Petrobras
With the signing of this contract to deploy the platform ship, Foresea, the service provider, ensures full employment of its fleet of offshore drilling rigs by December 2024 with the help of Petrobras. This is an important step for the company, which continues to work on its expansion and growth in the offshore market. Foresea’s CEO, Rogério Ibrahim, expressed his satisfaction with this strategic partnership and the growth potential it represents.

In addition to the Norbe VIII, Foresea’s own fleet includes other notable drilling rigs such as ODN I, ODN II, Norbe VI, and Norbe IX. These rigs are equipped with cutting-edge technology for deep-water drilling operations, meeting the demands of the offshore oil industry.
Strong Financial Performance of Foresea
In the first half of this year, Foresea registered an impressive net income of 99.9 million dollars. This solid financial performance is a testament to the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality services and its ability to meet the needs of the offshore energy sector.
This contract between Petrobras and Foresea represents a significant step in the offshore drilling sector in Brazil. With the Norbe VIII and other rigs from its fleet, Foresea is well positioned to meet the growing demand for deep-water drilling services. This investment with Petrobras is a positive sign for the country’s energy industry and may have a lasting impact on offshore oil and gas exploration.
