Macaé Receives New Offshore Support Base from Petrobras and Will Expand Its Economic Development
Petrobras continues advancing in its business. An Offshore Support Base was inaugurated yesterday (28) in Macaé, within the Port of Imbetiba. With the resumption of activities after the pandemic, the national oil giant estimates an investment of R$ 24 million for operations in the coming months, related to the pre-salt and the retro-area, which is already over 90% occupied. The venture will create jobs and bring advancements to the region’s economy.
The inauguration event of the offshore support base took place with the presence of the Executive Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability, Joelson Falcão Mendes, and the Executive Manager of Logistics of E&P, Daniel Gago. Offshore Support Base in Macaé Will Create Jobs and Bring Million-Dollar Returns to the Union
This new offshore support base and the company’s investments in the region promise significant advancements in the economic development of the area, generating more than 244 direct jobs, in addition to others indirectly. The jobs will be directly related to the operation of vehicles, equipment, and organization of the new offshore support base. All of this boosts the regional market after the resumption of activities post-pandemic and stimulates the city’s overall growth.

Petrobras Will Use the Offshore Support Base in Macaé to Support Anchoring Routine and Increase the Number of Dockings, Reducing Vessel Waiting Time
Using technology, the state-owned company will remodel the docking scheme for vessels at the Port of Imbetiba and renew all infrastructure to expedite waiting time at the port. In 2019, the port region received all anchoring projects for the company’s platforms and is now taking a new step to make all of this even more viable.
The port had a capacity for 115 dockings per month, and now this number is expected to rise to 150, with reduced waiting time. To achieve this, the region will have 3 large cranes, one capable of moving up to 120 tons over a span of 25 meters and two others with a capacity of 30 tons over up to 35 meters. Additionally, a new model of tugboat will be adopted, the AHTS 21000, a high-power vessel to meet demand more rapidly.
This will be made possible thanks to Production Units (FPSO), as well as the anchoring of drilling rigs through modern and large equipment. In addition, the retro-area will expand from 16 to 24 thousand square meters, which will be essential to accommodate large structures and their assembly, which could not be facilitated by road transport.
Currently, the waiting time for some vessels is 12 hours, subject to weather conditions and delays in dockings. This promises to be significantly reduced with improved logistics for vessels and dockings at the Port of Imbetiba, carried out by Petrobras.
