The Exploration and Discoveries of Oil Indications in the Santos Basin Conducted by Petrobras Are Significant Victories for the Brazilian Oil and Gas Sector.
Petrobras, a giant in the oil and gas sector, announced a significant discovery in the Santos Basin. The company informed the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) about the identification of new oil indications at the well 3-BRSA-1388DA-SPS, located in block S-M-623, where the Sagittarius prospect is situated, as reported by Petronoticias. This news represents an important milestone for the energy industry and for Brazil as a whole.
New Perspectives in Oil Exploration in the Santos Basin
The first oil indications in the region of block S-M-623, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, date back to 2013, when Petrobras made significant discoveries through the pioneering well 1-BRSA-1063-SPS.
Subsequently, in January 2020, the company announced another discovery, this time in the first extension well of the block, 3-BRSA-1370-SPS.

Petrobras announces an investment of R$ 2.8 billion in Amazonas to expand natural gas production in Urucu and modernize the river fleet, boosting energy, logistics, and the regional economy with new vessels adapted for operation in the Amazon.
However, the initial results of this exploratory campaign did not meet the company’s expectations.
Due to the below-expected results, Petrobras requested an extension from the ANP for the exploratory and assessment activities in the block.
The regulatory agency approved Petrobras’s request in 2021, extending the deadline for the Discovery Assessment Plan until March 5, 2024.
One of the conditions imposed by the ANP was the drilling of a second extension well, which was completed in July of this year with the well 3-BRSA-1388DA-SPS.
Petrobras Reaffirms Its Commitment to Research in Deep Waters
In a recent development, Petrobras notified the ANP about the identification of the first indications of oil at well 3-BRSA-1388DA-SPS, located 1,866 meters deep.
This discovery reignites hopes that the region of block S-M-623 could become a significant source of oil production, contributing to the country’s economy and strengthening Petrobras’s position in the global energy market.
Highlighting the ongoing importance of oil exploration in the Santos Basin, as well as Petrobras’s commitment to harnessing the region’s potential.
