The Donation of Switches for Schools in Duque de Caxias is Part of a Series of Initiatives Aimed at Digital Inclusion Planned by Petrobras for 2021
Petrobras informed in a relevant fact on the morning of this day (01/15) that it will start donating 250 computers to nine municipal and state schools in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, next week. The action will benefit more than five thousand students, aged 4 to 18, and is part of a series of initiatives aimed at the digital inclusion of children and young people planned by the state-owned company for 202.

According to Petrobras’ announcement, the computers will be allocated to the renovation and creation of computer centers in these educational institutions located near the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc) and UTE Termorio.
The delivery of the equipment will involve the participation of the director of Institutional Relationship and Sustainability, Roberto Furian Ardenghy, the director of Digital Transformation and Innovation, Nicolas Simone, the executive manager of Social Responsibility, Olinta Cardoso, the manager of Community Relationship and Social Risks, Edelcio de Freitas, the mayor of Duque de Caxias, Washington Reis, and directors of the benefiting schools.

The equipment donated to the municipal and state schools in Duque de Caxias, RJ, consists of computers that are no longer used by the company but have undergone maintenance and are in usable condition. “The initiative aims to increase access for children and adolescents from public schools to new technologies, contributing to reducing inequality in education,” says Petrobras’ executive manager of Social Responsibility, Olinta Cardoso.
The executive also highlights that in addition to donating computers to the schools in Duque de Caxias, RJ, Petrobras will invest in a digital empowerment project, with educational actions for high school adolescents and support for elementary school educators in developing pedagogical techniques that use technology in the learning process. “We also aim to contribute to the productive inclusion of young residents near our operations in the job market.”
Petrobras Initiatives with Local Development
According to the report, Petrobras states that it has conducted a broad socio-environmental diagnosis of the communities located in the areas of its operations.
It was through dialogue in spaces such as the Community Committees formed by local leaders in Duque de Caxias that Petrobras became aware of the demands and identified the need for schools for digital inclusion initiatives for both children and young people and for the teachers in these locations.
“We are connected with the communities where we operate, and together with them, we seek social solutions that contribute to local development. While Petrobras is accelerating its digital transformation, the company is also expanding this process to the communities where it operates based on the demands mapped by our community relationship teams,” concludes Olinta Cardoso.
