The Forecast Is That the Amaralina Star Will Begin Operations for Petrobras in Early 2020 Under Exclusive Dedication Regime in the BM-S-11 Project
Petrobras and Constellation have finalized negotiations for the chartering of the Amaralina Star, a drillship that will be operated for a period of two years by the Brazilian state-owned company. After a request for judicial recovery and making the best proposal in the bidding process, Constellation has finally secured a long-term agreement with Petrobras.
The forecast is that the Amaralina Star will begin operations in early 2020. The drillship has a capacity of 2,400 m and will operate under the exclusive dedication regime in the BM-S-11 project, an asset located in the Santos Basin cluster and operated under a consortium regime.

18-year-old creates biodegradable plastic that disappears and releases enzymes to “hunt” microplastics already spread in soil and water: invention wins European award, targets compostable bags and packaging, and transforms plastic itself into a weapon against invisible pollution.
The BM-S-11 is operated by the consortium formed by Petrobras (65%), Shell (25%), and Petrogal (10%), and the competition saw Transocean/Ocean Rig offering the drillship Ocean Rig Apollo. Two Ocean Rig rigs, the Ocean Mykonos and Ocean Corcovado, operated in the field until May 2018, resulting in the discovery of Lula and other fields in the region, such as Iracema, Berbigão, Sururu, and Atapu.
The contract between the two companies for the chartering of the Amaralina Star will be signed in December, and the value of the deal will be based on the daily rates presented in recent Petrobras bids related to the pool and BM-S-11.
They are preparing to put into operation for Petrobras, in addition to the Amaralina Star, three semi-submersible drilling rigs (the Gold Star, Alpha, Star, and Lone) that obtained the best daily rates in the bidding. The forecast for the start of drilling activities is between December and January.
