Petrobras files a request with IBAMA

Petrobras venture will be located offshore Rio Grande do Norte and is part of the review of the oil company's business plan for the period 2020-2024

As reported by Click Petróleo e Gás on September 26, the Petrobras revised its 2020-2024 strategic business plan and announced that it will invest in renewables.
Well, confirming the energy transition that not only Petrobras is going through, but all the major oil companies in the world, the Official Gazette published on the last October 04th, a request (see at the end of the article) made by the state-owned company to IBAMA for preliminary license and installation license for the implementation of an offshore wind generation pilot plant.

The environmental study involves an offshore wind power plant to be installed about 20 km off the coast of Guamaré, in the Ubarana field, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

According to a report produced by the consultancy KPMG in partnership with the equipment manufacturer Siemens Gamesa, called “The Socioeconomic Impacts of Wind Energy in the Context of the Energy Transition”, wind generation can supply about 34% of the global demand for electricity by 2040, above from the current 4%.

Wind energy will also play an important role in reducing CO² emissions in the world by 5,6 billion tons by 2050, that is, it alone will contribute to a reduction equivalent to 23% of the expected target for the period and of annual emissions from 80 most polluting cities on the planet.

benefits to humanity

The energy produced from the winds would represent savings of US$ 386 billion in costs related to climate change catastrophes, health and temperature increase by 2050, a value equivalent to the GDP of Norway.
At the same time, an economy based on renewable energies such as wind would increase wealth for all. The report estimates that global GDP would increase by approximately US$20 trillion by 2050, equivalent to about US$2.500 per person.

Without polluting gases and their drastic consequences, the annual reduction in health-related costs would reach US$ 3,2 trillion, saving up to four million lives a year.

The implementation of this offshore plant by Petrobras is just the beginning of actions in an area where there is still a lack of financial incentives and a specific policy for the long-awaited energy efficiency to come to fruition.
