Unilateral cuts in orders for the supply of gasoline and diesel oil for November this year, at Petrobras, raises an alert to the risk of fuel shortages
Petrobras clarified last night, in a relevant fact, about the news published in the media regarding the cuts in the fulfillment of orders for gasoline and diesel fuels. "The reductions promoted by Petrobras, which in some cases reach more than 50% of the volume requested for purchase, put the country in a potential situation of shortage", warned the Brasilcom in note.

According to the state-owned company, in the 2Q21 Production and Sales Report, the company operated its refining park, in the first half of 2021, with a utilization factor (FUT) of 79%, in line with the 2020 average and higher compared to 2019 (77%) and 2018 (76%), even considering the scheduled stoppages at the REDUC, RPBC, REGAP, RLAM, REPAR and REVAP refineries, which were postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the pandemic. In October 2021, the Company is operating with a FUT of 90%.
Petrobras made investments in its park to increase the capacity to process crude oil
It is worth mentioning that in recent years Petrobras has made investments in its park to increase the capacity to economically process the heaviest Brazilian crude oil, improve the quality of the derivative to meet stricter regulatory standards, modernize refineries and reduce the environmental impact of its refining operations.
Petrobras also clarifies that, in recent years, the Brazilian diesel market has been supplied both by its production and by imports made by distributors, third parties and by the Company, which ensured that domestic demand was fully met.
State continues to comply with gasoline and diesel contracts with distributors
For the month of November, Petrobras received orders far above previous months and its production capacity. Only well in advance could Petrobras be able to program itself to meet this atypical demand. Compared to November 2019, demand from distributors for diesel increased by 20% and for gasoline by 10%, representing more than 100% of the Brazilian market.
Petrobras continues to comply with contracts with distributors, in accordance with the terms, terms in force and its capacity. In addition, the Company is maximizing its production and deliveries, operating with high utilization of its refineries.
“Facts deemed relevant on the subject will be disclosed to the market in a timely manner”, concludes Petrobras in the statement.
