Despite The Ongoing Risk Of Oil Reaching The Coastal Region Of Espírito Santo, Petrobras Reports That The Incident Has Been Controlled
Confirmed by Petrobras this Sunday (24), the oil spill that occurred at the P-58 platform on Saturday (23), located about 80 KM from the southern coastal quadrants of Espírito Santo, has been controlled and the flow was stopped as soon as it was detected.
Six support vessels are currently working to collect and disperse the oil that has leaked. Petrobras stated in a note that there were no injuries or casualties, and the platform continues its normal operational activities.
The state-owned company adds that the immediate actions taken have reduced the amount of oil in the ocean. Aircraft have been surveying the area to check and confirm that the stain is spreading southward, at an approximate distance of 100 km from the coast, Petrobras adds.

It also reports that there is still a risk, albeit low, of oil from this incident reaching the coast. Teams from the Brazilian Navy, ANP, and Ibama are conducting operational simulations in case a more “energetic” intervention is necessary to prevent environmental damage.
