The Autonomy and Income Program Will Offer Technical Courses, Scholarships, and Opportunities for Women, Black People, Trans Individuals, and Traditional Communities Across the Country

Petrobras announced a historic investment of R$ 1.5 billion in social responsibility by 2029, focusing on inclusion, professional training, and fair energy transition. The plan aims for the qualification and integration of 20,000 professionals into the job market by 2028, through the program Autonomy and Income, aimed at vulnerable and underrepresented groups in seven Brazilian states.

According to Marcela Souza Levigard, Petrobras’ Social Projects Manager, the program was born from community listening and the need to bring investments closer to the reality of the communities.

“Skilled labor is a challenge, and on the other side are communities that want to know how they will benefit from these investments,” Levigard stated.

Energy Transition with Social and Human Impact

The information was disclosed during the third edition of the event “Dialogues for a Fair Energy Transition”, held at the headquarters of Petrobras in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting was promoted by Editora Globo with the support of the state-owned company and included names such as Leila Sterenberg, William Wills from the Center Brazil in Climate, and managers Juliana Ramos and Raquel Coutinho from Petrobras.

In the opening, Angélica Laureano, the company’s Director of Energy Transition and Sustainability, emphasized that Brazil has one of the cleanest energy matrices in the world, particularly due to investments in renewable sources.

“Petrobras, which is the largest energy company in the country, plays a central role in this mission. We produce one of the most decarbonized oils in the world, ensuring energy security while maintaining a focus on sustainability,” she stated.

The debate was divided into two panels: “The Challenge of a Fair Energy Transition in Brazil” and “The Energy That Transforms: Sustainability, Inclusion, and Income Generation”. The tone of the speeches reinforced Petrobras’ commitment to social equity, respect for human rights, and the training of professionals aligned with the new green economy.

Training, Equity, and Real Opportunities

The Autonomy and Income program offers courses for initial and continuing education for individuals with primary education and technical training for those who have completed secondary education. Participants receive a scholarship to study between three and four hours a day. Additionally, women with children up to 11 years old receive 30% more in scholarship value as an incentive for women’s inclusion in the market.

So far, 1.2 thousand professionals have already been trained, and the goal is to reach 20,000 Brazilians by 2028. The program prioritizes women, black and brown people, people with disabilities, trans people, refugees, and members of traditional communities, promoting a direct impact on reducing social inequality and access to income.

“The program provides the necessary qualification for the expansion of job opportunities,” highlighted Eliane Damasceno, manager at Firjan.

According to Raquel Coutinho, Petrobras’ Manager of Decarbonization, a fair energy transition needs to consider the energy poverty scenario in Brazil, where millions still live without access to adequate energy. The proposal aims to integrate economic development with social rescue and environmental sustainability.

From Oil to Sustainability: Projects That Change Realities

Petrobras also supports ecological projects in various regions. One example is the Fogão do Mar, from the Instituto Perene, in Recôncavo Baiano, which replaces wood stoves with eco-efficient equipment, reducing wood consumption and pressure on the Mata Atlântica.

“The project comes strong by providing income and formal job opportunities,” explains Guilherme Valadares, director of Instituto Perene.

For the Environmental Projects Manager at Petrobras, Gregório Araújo Maciel, the energy transition is also an ecological issue. He emphasizes the vital role of oceans, mangroves, and tropical forests in carbon absorption and storage, reinforcing that preserving the environment is investing in the future of the country.

With the Autonomy and Income program, Petrobras aims to unite professional training, income generation, and sustainability, transforming what was once inequality into opportunities for growth and dignity for thousands of Brazilian families.
