Generating More Than 3GW in Renewable Energy, Piauí Reached the Mark of 1 GWH Solar Photovoltaic Energy, Leading the Sector in the Country
Piauí has taken the lead in solar energy production capacity throughout Brazil. According to data from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the installed photovoltaic solar energy capacity in Piauí surpassed 1 GWH. Following closely behind is Bahia, with a capacity of 800 MWh.

Photovoltaic Solar Energy Market Leads in Piauí
Solar and wind energy sources accounted for over 90% of Piauí’s capacity in May, earning the state the title of one of the largest renewable energy producers.
According to Aneel, the energy matrix in Piauí last month was 3.71 GW. The generation of photovoltaic solar energy alone is five times the energy produced by the Boa Esperança Hydroelectric Plant in Guadalupe, which has a capacity of about 237,000 MW. In wind energy, Piauí reached fourth place, with 2 GW.

Every time a river flows into the sea, an amount of energy equivalent to a 120-meter waterfall is silently wasted, but Japan has just inaugurated the world’s first power plant that captures this waste and transforms it into electricity 24 hours a day without sun, wind, or fuel.

Silicon Valley bets on a 100-hour battery that uses carbon and oxygen to store renewable energy for days and could turn a little-known chemical system into an alternative to critical metal batteries to tackle prolonged blackouts.

Canadian engineers want to compress air in underground caverns and build plants of up to 500 MW that function as giant lungs to store renewable energy for hours and stabilize entire electrical grids.
Statement from the Director of Mining
According to the State Secretariat for Mining, Oil, and Renewable Energies, Piauí’s leadership demonstrates its potential for wealth generation through natural resources.
The Mining Director, Ramon Campelo, states that even with the lead in photovoltaic solar energy, there are still several plants that will begin operations. He states that those under construction will generate 215 MW, and those yet to be built promise to generate 2 GW.
In wind energy, Piauí is currently building plants with a capacity of 500 MW and another 944 MW from companies that will begin construction later.
Piauí Is a Reference in Photovoltaic Solar Energy and New Investments in the State Can Place It in the World Ranking
Piauí has been developing in the sector due to its privileged location in the Northeast region, especially in the so-called “solar belt,” which has the best solar radiation levels in Brazil. Piauí enjoys an average of 12 hours of sunshine and about 5 kWh/m2 per day. Photovoltaic solar plants bring various advantages to the state in all aspects.
During their construction, they generate numerous jobs, economic benefits for municipalities, and contribute to tax generation once the plant starts operating.
Currently, Piauí has photovoltaic plants in five municipalities and, in terms of wind energy, in nine. A large portion of the plants is located in the semi-arid region, where the HDI is lower than the state average, and the arrival of investments like this is very important.
