“The situation is critical, due to sanitary and safety issues,” says Alexandre Oliveira Vieira, Director of Health and Environment at the North Fluminense Oil Workers Union (Sindipetro-NF), affiliated with the United Federation of Oil Workers (FUP). Vieira refers to the fact that amongst the infected oil workers are technicians from teams considered essential for the operation of Petrobras’s platforms, such as cabotage masters, vessel coordinators, and production coordinators. “P-48 is working with an incomplete team of operators,” he emphasizes.

In addition to the outbreak on Petrobras’s P-48 platform, in the Campos Basin, 248 offshore workers were diagnosed as infected with COVID-19, between March 15 and 22, according to data from the National Petroleum Agency (ANP).
