National Oil Production Grows in May, with Pre-Salt Platforms Leading and FPSO Guanabara at the Top of the Ranking.
Brazil recorded a new record in national oil and natural gas production in May 2025. According to data released by the National Agency of Oil, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP), 4.763 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) were produced at oil platforms, of which 3.679 million corresponded solely to oil.
The increase, which represents a growth of 1.3% compared to April and 10.9% in comparison with the same month in 2024, reinforces the strength of the oil platforms operating in the country.
Once again, the highlight was the pre-salt fields, which accounted for 79.8% of national production. Located in ultra-deep waters, these fields delivered a record volume of 3.803 million boe/d, consolidating the region as the main hub of the Brazilian offshore industry.

Pre-Salt Leads National Oil and Gas Production
The performance of the pre-salt was driven by both the extraction of oil (2.943 million barrels per day) and the production of natural gas (136.75 million cubic meters per day).
The growth of 1.8% compared to April and 14.8% on an annual basis shows the efficiency of the platforms installed in the country’s most promising fields.
Furthermore, this result reinforces the importance of continuous investments in technology and infrastructure to sustain production growth.
FPSO Guanabara Remains the Most Productive Oil Platform
Among the oil platforms in operation, FPSO Guanabara maintained its lead as the unit with the highest production in Brazil. Installed in the Mero field, the FPSO recorded 183,948 barrels of oil per day and 12.135 million m³ of natural gas, totaling 260,272 boe/d in May.
Next in the ranking are FPSO Sepetiba, with 248,866 boe/d, and FPSO Almirante Barroso, with 186,643 boe/d, both also located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.

High Production Reinforces the Strategic Role of Oil Platforms
The significant growth in production reaffirms the strategic role of oil platforms for the energy matrix and the Brazilian economy. With the pre-salt maintaining robust performance, the expectation is that new projects and units will continue to expand national capacity.
This positive trend points to a scenario of strengthening the sector and amplifies Brazil’s prominence in the global oil and gas market.
