DOF Group Secured a New Direction for the AHTS Skandi Ipanema. The Vessel Will Explore Brazilian Waters Under a Long-Term Contract with Petrobras.
This Thursday (01/26), DOF Group received authorization from Petrobras through a four-year contract. The contract aims for the chartering of one of its vessels for the supply of Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels. The firm alliance with its Brazilian affiliate, Norskan Offshore, ensures that the AHTS Skandi Ipanema operates as AHTS-TS or TO. Should the partnership be beneficial, the contract includes an option to extend the agreement for another year.
With the Agreement Concluded Between DOF Subsea and Petrobras, Expectations Are That Plans Will Be Developed in the Third Quarter of 2023
DOF’s CEO, Mons Aase, expresses his happiness and anticipates great achievements with the new alliance: “I am very pleased with this award, adding more backlog to our AHTS fleet in Brazil and looking forward to providing high-quality services to Petrobras.”
According to the Norwegian company, the gross value of the contract is approximately US$ 51 million. Regarding the Skandi Ipanema, the AHTS was built in 2010 and is of the STX AH 05 design. This vessel can accommodate 38 people.

Regarding DOF’s recent agreements, it is worth noting that the company secured new jobs for vessels in December 2022 in the Atlantic region with an undisclosed operator in West Africa.
The Oil and Gas Relationship Between Brazil and Norway
The relationship of the Norwegian company with Brazil has existed for several years. DOF ASA invested US$ 50 million in maritime support activities in our country in 2012, signing a long-lasting contract between the companies.
Also in 2012, there were actions for the construction of new vessels in Brazilian waters, and, in fact, the largest tug was built in Brazil that same year.
According to Eirik Torressen, the managing director of the group in Brazil, when the company set up operations in the country in 2001, it started with two vessels.
After seven years, in 2008, the number increased to eight vessels. In 2012 it reached 24 vessels and in 2014, 28. Out of that total, 16 vessels fly the Brazilian flag.
All DOF vessels in Brazil have long-term contracts with Petrobras. “We do this because we believe in the Brazilian market,” concluded Torressen.
Recently, DOF Subsea closed another agreement with Petrobras, which granted new long-term services to the group in Brazil.
The vessels Skandi Angra, Skandi Paraty, Skandi Urca, and Skandi Fluminense, currently operating for Petrobras, were contracted for an additional three firm years and two more at the option of the Brazilian company.
According to DOF, the gross value of the contracts is approximately US$ 260 million.
The CEO of DOF Subsea concludes: “I am very pleased that these awards secure the utilization of our personnel and assets and add a significant backlog to the group. This further strengthens our leadership position in Brazil and confirms our long-standing relationship with Petrobras.”
In addition to Petrobras, DOF’s main clients in Brazil are: Equinor, Shell, Chevron, and OGX.
