The Electric Porsche Boxster Will Lose Its Combustion Engine In Three Years. New Feature Excites Motorsports Enthusiasts
It is estimated that the Porsche Boxster Spyder RS, as it has been named, will be the last version of the 718, which will be a more powerful model of the roadster ever made. Following this, the expectation is that a completely differentiated car will come, as the brand announced that its new smallest sports car will be fully electric.
Thus, Porsche will have a different strategy compared to the 911, which will be the company’s first hybrid car before losing its combustion engine in 2030. Therefore, the company is on the right track to innovate in electric motors, in order to combat climate change.
Having always shown its ambitions in favor of 100% electric mobility, Porsche revealed the “Mission R” concept about a year ago, featuring a fully electric race car with aggressive aerodynamics and around 1,000 hp of power. Despite this, the Boxster EV will not be as bold, but some design details should be the focus in the production model.

Larger than the Toyota Hilux and with a range of 71.9 km/l, the new Jetour F700 PHEV emerges with 1,631 hp, four electric motors, charging from 20% to 80% in 10 minutes, and a size close to the Ram 1500.
In addition to the innovative concept of its new car, Porsche is also working on a new Cayman that should be even more similar to the Mission R, especially visually. Therefore, it is important to remember that the concept presented last year was based on the current Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
Thus, the current production version will be built on an adaptation of the upcoming Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which was co-developed with Audi, indicating that some proportions will change after shedding some characteristics of a combustion car.
Electric Sports Car Is Still Something To Consider
Currently, the German brand argues that the electric 718 duo will maintain the gasoline central-rear engine layout, only installing the batteries between the axles. This way, it will give the electric cars a lower center of gravity, along with optimized weight distribution to enhance their drivability.
Moreover, it is essential to mention that the Mission R, with all-wheel drive and dual motors, weighed only 1,500 kg! As such, the weight is considered quite low, especially since the Cayman GT4 is only 85 kg lighter.
Furthermore, many people question whether it is really possible to launch an electric sports car. However, if this does happen, it will certainly be Porsche that launches it. Therefore, with the Taycan, the brand demonstrated that even in a large and heavy car, it is still possible to offer the practicality of a four-door model in an easy and productive manner.
Thus, before the 718 becomes a fully electric sports model, the Macan will have the same mission to present next year, and it should coexist smoothly with the combustion version for a short period of time. In fact, by the end of this decade, a large SUV is expected to be added to Porsche’s electric lineup.
