Strengthening Fertilizer Logistics
Portocel, an operator of the port terminal of excellence, and Adufértil, a leader in the fertilizer segment, join forces in Espírito Santo, signaling a significant advancement in the logistics of importing and handling fertilizers in Brazil. This collaboration, with estimated investments of R$ 65 million, promises not only to optimize the fertilizer supply chain but also to generate a considerable economic impact, with the creation of about 390 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
Portocel, known for its efficiency in handling forestry products, and Adufértil, headquartered in Campinas (SP), are now expanding their operations to include the import of fertilizers, one of the country’s main inputs, through the capixaba port.
Expansion and Innovation in Fertilizer Handling
With the forecast of moving between 120,000 and 180,000 tons/year of fertilizers through Portocel, this partnership reflects a significant step in diversifying and expanding the terminal’s activities. Adufértil plans to install a mixer in a strategic area of approximately 90,000 m2, near Suzano’s factory in Aracruz. This expansion not only strengthens the terminal’s position in the market but also consolidates Aracruz as a logistics hub of increasing importance in Espírito Santo and Brazil.

The integration of a contiguous area of approximately 300,000 m2 to the port is part of a larger strategy to increase storage and handling capacity, further enhancing the terminal’s attractiveness for diverse cargo operations. Alexandre Billot Mori, executive operations manager of Portocel and president of the Business Movement Association of Aracruz and Region (Amear), highlights the importance of this expansion, emphasizing Portocel’s vision as a multipurpose port and its growing role in the fertilizer segment.
Strategic Benefits and Commitment to Sustainability
For Suzano, the fertilizer operation is a strategic move, not only reducing the radius of supply for essential inputs but also promoting sustainability and local development. Viviane Danemberg Gomes Lichtenstein, executive supply manager of Suzano, emphasizes the importance of fostering strategic partnerships that provide disruptive and sustainable solutions in the supply chain. Similarly, Carlos Alberto Nassur, executive manager of Forestry Operations at Suzano, stresses how the logistics chain reinforced by Portocel will significantly contribute to the competitiveness and economic growth of the region.
Adufértil, under the leadership of Douglas Fontanini, CEO, is committed to strengthening the cellulose production chain, demonstrating its confidence and interest in continuously improving the sector. The operation, expected to start in 2026, promises to open new logistical pathways for the movement of fertilizers, serving not only Espírito Santo but also Minas Gerais and Bahia.
In summary, the partnership between Portocel and Adufértil represents a convergence of visions, technology, and commitment to sustainability, signaling a new era in fertilizer logistics and reinforcing Espírito Santo’s position as a strategic center for trade and industry in Brazil.
