After Petrobras Consecutively Lowered The Price Of Gasoline At Refineries, Fuel Plummets And Can Be Found At R$ 4.58 In São Paulo
After Petrobras consecutively lowered the price of gasoline at refineries and for resellers, the average price of fuel became cheaper than diesel, showing a decrease of over 9.16% in the first half of August compared to July. Ethanol followed the same trend and can be found at R$ 3.21 at gas stations in São Paulo.
The decline is a result of the reduction of ICMS and PIS/Cofins by the states, in addition to the reduction of the selling price of fuel to the refineries by Petrobras, as an effect of the drop in Brent oil prices, which are currently trading below US$ 100.

Refueling With Ethanol Is Only Advantageous In Mato Grosso
With the sharp decline in gasoline prices, ethanol has ceased to be advantageous in almost the entire country. In the first half of August, the only state where it was worth refueling with ethanol was Mato Grosso – the average price of fuel during this period was R$ 4.011.
It is worth noting that the method used in this analysis, discounting factors such as the individual autonomy of each vehicle, indicates that to justify filling the tank with ethanol, the price per liter must be less than 70% of the gasoline price.
