Ethanol Price Ends Period at R$ 6.15, Up 3.69% Compared to April, No Decline Observed in Any Region of the Country
Data from the latest survey by the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), regarding the first days of May, indicates that the liter of gasoline sold at fuel stations in the country increased by 0.70% in price, ending the period at R$ 7.55. Meanwhile, ethanol continues to show more significant increases, closing the first days of the month at R$ 6.15, a value 3.69% higher compared to the closure of the previous month. “If we compare the current price with the closure of 2021, we are already paying 9.5% more for gasoline in 2022 and 6.5% more for the liter of ethanol,” highlights Douglas Pina, General Director of Mainstream in the Fleet and Mobility Division at Edenred Brazil.
Only five states from two Brazilian regions reported a drop in gasoline prices. In the Northeast, Rio Grande do Norte recorded a reduction of 1.28% in fuel price; Pernambuco by -0.51%; Maranhão by -0.21%; and Alagoas by -0.13%. The North Region also saw a decrease in price, but only in Tocantins by -0.12%. The average for the region reflected an increase of 0.65% in fuel price.
Despite the listed declines, the gasoline that continues to have the highest average price in the country is sold at fuel pumps in the Northeast, at R$ 7.63, an increase of 0.66%. The analysis of the lowest average for this fuel repeated previous results and was recorded in the South Region, with the liter averaging R$ 7.21.

On the other hand, ethanol did not present a decline in average price in any region, and the most expensive liter, previously sold in the North stations, was now recorded in the South at the beginning of this month, at R$ 6.35, an increase of 3.91%. The cheapest liter for ethanol was again found at stations in the Central-West, at R$ 5.75.
In state-by-state analysis, Bahia returns to the top for the largest increase in the country for gasoline (5.16%), rising from R$ 7.36 to R$ 7.74. The highest average continues to be sold at fuel stations in Piauí, at R$ 8.17, an increase of 0.29%. The lowest average was found in Rio Grande do Sul, at R$ 7.02.
There was no reduction in ethanol prices in any Brazilian state, and the most significant increase, which last month was found at stations in São Paulo, was this time recorded in Ceará, with a price 9.56% higher, rising from R$ 6.13 to R$ 6.71. The most expensive liter for ethanol was sold in Pará, at R$ 6.76, with an increase of 1.17%; and the cheapest in São Paulo, at R$ 5.20.
“According to Ticket Log’s survey, the increases in ethanol prices already reflect on the analysis of the most advantageous fuel for refueling, and in these first days of the month, the fuel has proven to be the more favorable option only for two cities in the country, Goiás and Mato Grosso, unlike last month, which reached five,” concludes Pina.
The IPTL is a fuel price index based on refuels conducted at the 21,000 accredited Ticket Log stations, which has great reliability due to the number of vehicles managed by the brand: 1 million in total, averaging eight transactions per second.
