Construction Prices Rose 0.46% In April, According To SINAPI From IBGE, With Impact On Materials And Labor Costs; Northeast Leads Increase Highlighted By Bahia.
Construction prices registered a new increase in April, with a variation of 0.46% in the National Construction Index (SINAPI), released on Thursday (9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The number represents an advance of 0.11 percentage points compared to the previous month, when the rate was 0.35%. The average cost of the sector, per square meter, rose from R$ 1,810.25 in March to R$ 1,818.64 in April, reflecting increases in both materials and labor.
Materials And Labor Impact Construction Cost
In April, the share related to materials had a variation of 0.31%, slightly lower than that of March (0.35%), but above the rate observed in April 2023 (0.11%). Thus, the average cost of inputs reached R$ 1,046.66 per square meter.

Northeast Leads Regional Variation With Increase Driven By Bahia
Among Brazilian regions, the Northeast led the increase in construction prices in April, with a rise of 0.74%, a result directly impacted by adjustments in Bahia, where collective agreements were made with professional categories.
The state of Bahia, in fact, had the highest rate in the country, with a growth of 2.32% in the month.
The other regions showed more moderate variations: North (0.25%), Southeast (0.37%), South (0.42%), and Central-West (0.26%).
In the accumulated results for the last 12 months, SINAPI recorded an increase of 4.74%, slightly surpassing the 4.69% of the previous 12 months.
The index remains an essential reference for public and private construction budgets in Brazil, being widely used by engineers, construction companies, and governments.
