On the morning of Tuesday (09), the Mayor of Macaé, Welberth Rezende, received in his office the manager of the Campos Basin Business Unit (UNBC) of Petrobras, Suen Marcet Santiago de Macedo.

The meeting specifically addressed the US$ 13 billion that will be invested in Macaé by Petrobras in order to generate more job opportunities in the region and to make it the central hub of investments in the offshore oil and gas industry.

“I received today in my office the visit from the manager of the Campos Basin Business Unit (UNBC) of Petrobras, Suen Marcet Santiago de Macedo, who brought us great news. The state-owned company, a major partner in the development of our city, will invest US$ 13 billion over the next five years in Macaé and the region. This means more job opportunities for everyone,” said the Mayor on his official Facebook page.

Macaé Wants to Stop Being Just the “Oil Capital”

Petrobras’ new business plan will continue to include investments in the Campos Basin, affirmed the company’s Executive Director of Exploration and Production, Carlos Alberto de Oliveira, during a conference with foreign analysts.

“The projects for the renewal of the Campos Basin are very resilient to low prices and are viable below the barrel price target of US$ 35 that we have set for the company. I can say that we will continue to invest in this basin, where we see a lot of potential,” said the executive.

In addition to attracting jobs, investments in the region will also provide revitalization of this part of the basin. The areas allocated by Petrobras are in shallow waters, in the Campos Basin, where, according to ANP, production has dropped by 50% over the last 10 years.
