The Increase in Kitchen Gas Prices
Last month, Petrobras announced a 5.9% increase for distributors, meaning the price per kg went up to R$ 3.40. As is evident, kitchen gas has seen higher prices in recent months, so much so that it is now common to find gas canisters costing over R$ 100, as is the case in the North region, where kitchen gas prices can reach R$ 113. In May, the product also experienced a 1.24% increase across distributors nationwide according to IBGE data, while piped gas saw a 4.58% increase.
Gas Voucher: Kitchen Gas Aid in Other States
Due to the aforementioned gas price increase, the governments of Maranhão and Ceará are providing their populations with aid for purchasing kitchen gas, known as gas vouchers.
For those residing in Ceará, the state government created the social gas voucher, which has already been granted in two rounds and was administered by the CRAS of Fortaleza. In Maranhão, the government has begun to release assistance for kitchen gas coordinated by the Secretariat of Social Development (Sedes), benefiting around 119,000 families across the state.
