Kia Focuses on the Global Market
The Stonic will be the first compact SUV model equipped with hybrid technology in the national market. According to Kia Brasil’s president, businessman José Luiz Gandini, the Kia Stonic SUV will be a key piece in portraying the path to leadership in the global electric vehicle market.
Kia Brazil’s boldness is part of the brand’s new business marketing strategy, which also promised the launch of seven more electric car models by the end of 2027.
The SUV Stonic had already been displayed at the Auto Show in São Paulo in 2018 and is still homologated in the Brazilian catalog. All data related to the model’s consumption were published in the latest update of the Vehicle Labeling Program from Inmetro.

The hybrid vehicle is powered by the 1.0 turbo, three-cylinder Kappa engine – which is also found in the Creta and HB20 models – featuring direct fuel injection, in addition to the super lightweight 48V MHEV hybrid system.
The powertrain delivers about 120 horsepower and 17.5 kgfm of torque, with an automated transmission and 20.4 kgfm of manual gearbox. This hybrid vehicle system is known as mild hybrid. It starts to operate when the vehicle needs to face a descent, where the system saves the combustion engine, or even on climbs, when the powertrain needs more constant force.
In addition to these hybrid system characteristics, the engine equipped with this system is much more efficient in consumption and less polluting than conventional models. The Stonic recorded about 13.3 km/l in the city and 13.2 km/l on the highway, fully fueled with gasoline. Despite the model being revealed, Kia has not yet commented on other standard items of the vehicle.
