The Wahoo Field Is a Clear Example of PRIO’s Promising Future in the Campos Basin, Reflecting the Company’s Ability to Develop Innovative Solutions for Mature and Challenging Fields.
In 2025, PRIO, one of the largest independent oil and gas companies in Brazil, celebrates 10 years of a journey marked by innovation and growth in the sector. To commemorate this decade of achievements, the company announced a significant milestone in its journey: drilling in the Wahoo field, located in the Campos Basin. This is PRIO’s first greenfield project and signals a new phase of investments and development of mature fields, reflecting the company’s commitment to the constant evolution of the oil and gas industry.
Wahoo Field: Challenges and Opportunities
PRIO began drilling in the Wahoo field this month, a project that marks an important step in the development of mature fields through cutting-edge technologies such as subsea tiebacks.
PRIO’s president, Roberto Monteiro, shared the announcement on his LinkedIn profile, emphasizing the importance of this project for the company’s strategy. “The project, which started this month, is a milestone in our strategy for developing mature fields through subsea tiebacks and reflects the increasing complexity of the projects we have undertaken since the beginning,” Monteiro wrote.

Subsea Connection: The Crucial Role of FPSO Frade
One of the main features of the project in the Wahoo field is the subsea interconnection that will link the field to the FPSO Frade. PRIO highlights that this connection, approximately 30 km in length, will be essential to enable production.
According to Francilmar Fernandes, Operations Director at PRIO, “the interconnection with FPSO Frade is crucial for the project’s success, as without this structure, Wahoo would be economically unfeasible.”
With a processing capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day, FPSO Frade will be fundamental to the success of the Wahoo field, ensuring that production is carried out efficiently.
