Initiative Boosts Reconstruction of Schools and Offers Practical Training for the Population, in Partnership with SENAI-RS.
With the aim of combining education, reconstruction, and opportunities, the city of Canoas is offering free qualification workshops in the area of construction. The initiative, aimed at individuals over 18 years old and residents of the municipality, integrates actions to recover schools affected by recent events while preparing participants for the job market. The project is the result of a partnership between the Department of Economic Development and Innovation (SMDEI), the Municipal Department of Education (SME), and the National Service for Industrial Training of Rio Grande do Sul (SENAI-RS).

The school, which had received donated paint after the floods, needed adjustments to make the environment more welcoming for the children.
“Here after the flood, we received paint, a donation, however, the paint in some classrooms became too dark for the children. And the school, for them, has to be a cheerful, open environment,” stated Deise Genro, the unit’s principal.
“With this partnership, we were able to carry out the maintenance without bearing the cost of labor, just with the materials,” she added.
Professional Qualification with Real Impact on the Community
In addition to contributing directly to the infrastructure of the schools, workshop participants gain practical and theoretical experience in construction.
Professor Carlos Hegele, responsible for the training, highlights the benefits of the qualification: “It avoids the need to hire someone to do this work at home, helps if you want to hire someone for something bigger since you will know what really needs to be done, and, in addition, the participant can use this knowledge as a source of income.”
This model of training with immediate application reinforces the importance of professional qualification linked to real demands of the city, promoting autonomy and citizenship.
Registrations Open and Without Deadline for Closure
Those interested in participating in the upcoming classes should contact SMDEI, located at Rua Doutor Barcelos, 969, from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To register for free, it is necessary to present an ID, CPF, and proof of residence. “At that moment, a request for free registration is generated.”
Registrations remain open indefinitely,” clarifies Gislaine Silveira, Director of Employment, Work, Income, and Professional Training at SMDEI.

Next Steps Are Already Scheduled
After the completion of activities at EMEI Pingo de Gente, two other school units will be contemplated: EMEI Vó Sara and EMEI Recanto do Filhote. New classes will be opened as the project schedule advances.
The action represents more than just a simple technical qualification: it is a joint effort of reconstruction, social inclusion, and appreciation of education as a pillar for urban and human development.
With the support of SENAI, the city of Canoas transforms challenges into real opportunities for its citizens.
