USP de São Carlos Opens Enrollment for Online Data Science Course with 290 Slots, Classes Between November and December and Certificate for Participants Who Complete at Least 75% of the Expected Workload.

The Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at the University of São Paulo (ICMC-USP), in São Carlos, has opened enrollment for the new edition of the online course “Foundations of Probability and Statistics for Data Science”.

There are 290 slots available for the general public, with a fee of R$ 650 and an enrollment deadline of October 31.

The course will have 30 hours of activities between November 10 and December 19, with a certificate for those who complete at least 75% of the workload and the proposed tasks.

Course Combines Theory and Practice in Data Science

Aimed at beginners, the program does not require prior graduation and was structured to offer an accessible introduction without losing the necessary theoretical foundation.

The proposal is to integrate statistics, probability, and programming, applying the contents to real problems.

Curriculum Focused on Applications

The learning path includes Bayes’ theorem, Monte Carlo simulation, regression, Bayesian inference, and statistical learning theory.

With the support of the Python language, students will be trained to structure models, validate hypotheses, and conduct data analyses from start to finish.

Format of Classes and Certification

The activities combine recorded lectures, practical exercises, and live meetings via Google Meet.

This dynamic ensures flexibility for the student while also promoting interaction with the professors.

The certificate is granted only to those who prove a minimum attendance of 75% and submit the required activities.

Regular Slots and Full Scholarships

Out of the 290 available slots, the majority will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additionally, there are 30 fee waivers aimed at candidates from low-income backgrounds.

To participate in the scholarship selection, it is necessary to submit income documentation by September 30, through the Apolo System.

Coordination and Pedagogical Proposal

The course is coordinated by Professor Francisco Rodrigues from ICMC-USP.

The methodology aims to bring theory closer to practice, with applied exercises and case studies.

According to the organization, the idea is to provide students with the conditions to advance to more complex paths in data science after completion.

Intensive Schedule

Starting on November 10 and ending on December 19, the total workload of 30 hours will be spread over just over five weeks.

The planning provides for continuous study, combining recorded content and synchronous activities to consolidate learning.
