The free English and Spanish courses offered by the Ministry of Education have a workload of 30 hours. They must be completed by July 31, 2025, and the certificate can be issued five days after enrollment.
According to the MEC, more than 8.4 million certificates have already been issued for the free online courses (EAD). All courses offer certification at the end, an excellent way to accumulate complementary hours in college. After approval, the student can issue the certificate online.

Free French courses offered by the MEC: The MEC offers three free French courses, each focused on different application areas. “French Applied to Management” covers topics such as tourist destinations, airports, complaints, and health and safety. With a workload of 40 hours, this course is intended for students and professionals in the field, requiring reading comprehension in French and equipment with audio and video. Completion must occur by 07/31/2025.
Another available course is “French Applied to Production and Service,” focused on hospitality, reservations, and catering services. With a duration of 30 hours, it is aimed at students and professionals, also requiring reading comprehension in French. In addition, the “Basic French” course covers introductions, everyday life, and descriptions at airports, making it ideal for high school and college students. All courses are without tutoring, with a minimum completion time of 5 to 6 days.
The free Spanish courses offered by the MEC cover various linguistic and cultural skills. The content of the Spanish courses 1 to 5 includes greetings, the alphabet, use of essential verbs in the present and future, as well as basic cultural expressions and vocabulary related to travel, health, and spatial orientation. These levels prepare students for daily interactions and introduce verbs in different tenses.
In the more advanced levels, the Spanish courses 6 to 10 deepen students’ knowledge with topics such as verb conjugation in past tenses, advanced use of prepositions, specialized vocabulary in academic events, and cultural nuances, including Cuban literature and telenovelas. These courses develop communicative competence for more complex situations and detailed discussions about linguistic and cultural varieties.
The free English courses from the MEC cover a wide range of essential topics, from basic to more advanced concepts. In the initial levels, students learn about personal identification, location, transportation, family, and daily routines, progressing to topics such as weather, sports, and leisure.
