Among the victims struck by lightning are Natalia Queiroz, 29, and Ludmila Fernanda, 20, who gave an interview to CNN Brazil after medical treatment.
The two detailed the moment of the impact and stated that, despite the scare and the physical consequences, they do not regret participating in the event.
Testimonies After Treatment at Hospital of Base of DF
Upon leaving the Hospital of Base of the Federal District, Natalia reported that she and her friend traveled from Cuiabá (MT) to Brasília and arrived in the capital on Friday (23).
According to her, the heavy rain began during the rally, causing participants to stay close to each other.
Thus, after the impact, Natalia noticed Ludmila lying on the ground and asked for help from people nearby.
She reported that her friend was the first patient admitted to the hospital, a facility that received a significant portion of the victims struck by lightning that day.
Ludmila described to CNN Brazil that she felt “an explosion, a very bright white light” and then lost consciousness.
The young woman stated that she only remembers waking up in the hospital while people were trying to revive her.
During treatment, she underwent blood tests and an electrocardiogram, a procedure that assesses the heart’s electrical activity.
According to Natalia, Ludmila had bruises on her legs and other marks on her body, consistent with the indirect impact of the lightning.
Despite this, both emphasized that they do not regret participating in the rally.
Fire Department Treats 72 Victims at the Scene
According to the Fire Department of the Federal District, 72 people required assistance still at Praça do Cruzeiro.
Of this total, 42 were stable, conscious, and oriented at the time of rescue. Another 30 victims were sent to the Hospital of Base of DF and the Regional Hospital of Asa Norte (HRAN).
Eight people presented a clinical condition considered unstable.
Among the injured, there were reports of burns, mainly on the hands and the chest area, common symptoms in cases of atmospheric electrical discharge.
The individual health status of the victims has not yet been detailed by the authorities.
In addition to the direct effects of the lightning at the political event, firefighters also attended to cases of sprains and episodes of hyperthermia, associated with adverse weather conditions.
For the response, the corporation deployed 25 vehicles, including 10 Rescue Units, acting immediately at the scene of the rally.
Understand the Rally That Ended with Lightning Strike at Political Event
Thus, the rally began on Monday (19), when federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira left Paracatu, in Northwestern Minas Gerais.
The route totaled about 240 kilometers and gained wide repercussion on social media.
The act gathered parliamentarians, supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro, and voters of the deputy, aiming to protest against decisions of the Supreme Federal Court related to those convicted for the antidemocratic actions of January 8, 2023, including former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Presence of Political Leaders and Repercussion
In addition to Nikolas Ferreira, the rally included the presence of well-known names in national politics, such as Carlos Bolsonaro, Father Kelmon, Senator Marcos do Val, and deputies Zé Trovão, Filipe Barros, and Carlos Jordy.
Before the final leg of the walk, Nikolas stated that the rally had fulfilled its role of “awakening people and opening their eyes to what is happening” in the country.
Thus, despite the incident, the episode reinforced the need for heightened attention to extreme weather events during large public gatherings.
The case continues to be monitored by health and safety authorities, while the victims struck by lightning receive medical monitoring and necessary support.
