After Brazilian President Lula welcomed representatives of the Venezuelan government at his inauguration, the state-owned Venezuelan airline Conviasa announced the resumption of flights between the two countries. The Autonomous Service of Regional Airports of Venezuela (SAAR) celebrated.
In fact, the service has already announced the arrival and departure times for the flights, which will be made by the state-owned company using Embraer aircraft. On Thursdays, the E190, the aircraft model, is scheduled to take off from the city of Puerto Ordaz at 12:30 PM and land in the Amazon capital, Manaus, at 2:40 PM.
The return is scheduled for 3:40 PM from Manaus, arriving in Venezuela at 5:50 PM. In the Bolívar country, connections are in Puerto Ordaz, Caracas, and Porlamar. There is an expectation that tickets will soon be on sale.
Since March 2020, there have been no regular air operations between Brazil and Venezuela. Eduardo Gomes Airport, one of the most sought-after international destinations from Manaus, ranks among the top ten. Before it are Tocumen Airport in Panama, Fort Lauderdale in Miami, United States, and Bogotá in Colombia.

Brazilian airlines Gol Linhas Aéreas, Azul Linhas Aéreas, and Copa Airlines already offer international services at Eduardo Gomes. Along with Conviasa, Avianca is also preparing to operate.
Resumption of Relations
Lula wants to resume relations that were broken by former President Jair Bolsonaro, who did not recognize the country because it is under a dictatorial regime, according to Bolsonaro. This was confirmed by a letter sent by President Lula even before he was inaugurated, on December 7 last year.
The Brazilian acknowledged that he was aware of Nicolás Maduro’s difficulties in attending the inauguration, which faced issues with the aircraft’s fueling, having been represented by the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodrigues. Rodrigues was designated head of the delegation.
With Lula’s decision, Brazil no longer recognizes the interim government of Juan Guaidó. As a foreign policy measure, this was one of the first adopted by the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
During the transition period, the now Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, had stated that the first dispatch from President Lula would include, among other measures, guidance for the reestablishment of relations between Brazil and Maduro’s Venezuela. Accordingly, in the coming days, a chargé d’affaires will be sent. Later, with the inauguration of the new Senate legislature, the ambassador’s name will be submitted for necessary approval. Another piece of information from Lula’s letter is that the ordinance of August 19, 2019, which contained a list of Venezuelans banned from entering Brazil, including Maduro, will be revoked.
