A Simple Technique With Ice, Salt, And Alcohol Speeds Up Cooling Of Beers And Sodas And Saves Any Last-Minute BBQ

Planning a BBQ can be fun, but it also takes work. Between preparing the food and organizing the house, it’s common to forget to chill the drinks. For those who have gone through this, there is a simple and effective solution that can have the beer or soda ready to drink in just a few minutes.

The tip lies in using a mixture that enhances cooling: ice, salt, and alcohol. Submerging cans and bottles in ice helps, but it’s not always enough.

The secret is understanding how the materials behave. Cans, for example, chill faster than plastic or glass bottles. This happens because aluminum is thinner and conducts cold better.

But the real difference is in the composition of the mixture. Salt lowers the freezing point of water, making the ice colder.

On the other hand, alcohol has the ability to draw heat from the surroundings, keeping the mixture cold for longer periods. Thus, the cooling of the drinks happens more quickly and effectively.

For good results, it’s important to respect the correct ratio. The recommendation is to add 250 milligrams of salt and 250 milliliters of alcohol for every 5 kilograms of ice. Just place the drinks in the middle of the mixture and wait a few minutes.

It’s important to be careful. Prolonged contact with the colder ice can cause mild burns. Therefore, avoid touching too much and wash your hands after preparing everything. And remember to clean the cans before drinking, so you don’t taste the salt.
