The sale of fake coffee is taking consumers by surprise on supermarket shelves. Understand how coffee with adulterated beans deceives consumers, according to the executive director of ABIC!
Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world and has historically been among the most valuable commodities on the global market. Even with the evolution of consumption habits, it continues to be enjoyed in various forms, from small cups to large glasses. However, recently, the Brazilian coffee industry has faced a worrying challenge: the so-called sale of fake coffee, which involves the adulteration of grains with impurities, generating apprehension among producers and consumers.
Understand how the sale of fake coffee works
This concern about the sale of fake coffee exists due to the products prepared with “coffee flavor”, but which in reality are not traditional coffee. Even more so at this time, when the powder from the roasted and ground beans is being sold at very high prices.
Called 'fake coffee', these adulterated beans are a clear and evident attempt to deceive and mislead consumers, according to the executive director of Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (Abic).

To give you an idea, the association recently found a coffee-flavored powder being sold in Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo.
These adulterated grains can be made from husks, straw, leaves, sticks or any part of the plant except the seed.
An example of a product manufactured in this way is one called Oficial do Brasil, which has the phrase “traditional coffee flavored drink” written on its packaging. According to Silva, even though there is an indication that it is a coffee with “adulterated beans”, there is also a risk that the consumer will end up being deceived, since the packaging is very similar to products that are actually made with roasted and ground coffee.
Company speaks out after accusation of selling fake coffee
According to the manufacturer of the Official of Brazil, Master Blends, a company based in Salto de Pirapora (SP), created the coffee and made this clear on its packaging. In this way, it denies that the company is deceiving its consumers with adulterated beans. As the company highlights in an official note, at the moment Some have said that it is coffee and claim that it only creates a by-product to serve a class that is suffering every day that passes.
The company's official note also mentions that this product is composed of coffee and roasted coffee pulp and ground, it says “coffee-based drink” on the front and also on the back of the packaging. Oficial do Brasil has been on the market for 32 years, and emphasizes that it has never deceived the consumer.
According to the note, what was considered the sale of fake coffee is the same as what occurred by other large and well-known companies in the market, what was condensed milk became a milk mixture, before there was a chocolate-coated bonbon and now it has a chocolate-flavored coating, among others.
Understand the reason for selling fake coffee with adulterated beans
These alternatives arise because, since 2024, the ground and roasted coffee industry has been passing on the costs of raw materials to consumers. Consequently, the price of coffee increases and this creates fertile ground for the sale of fake coffee.
According to Silva, Abic is going through a very tense time. Raw coffee, the basis for roasted and ground coffee, has not seen such high prices even during the frost of 1979. When this happens, the raw material becomes increasingly competitive and the industrialists who acquire the raw material at these prices will pass on the values.
It is precisely because of this that Abic is concerned about those who may end up profiting from adulterated coffee beans. Because of this, the entity has already reported the case to the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).
We no longer have good coffee for domestic consumption...that meets the demand of the majority of those who consume it. If more blends are made, what will happen to those who work honestly in this country!!! We have few serious people! In the coffee business...with quality in Brazil!!
MY GOD THERE ARE ONLY SCAMMERS IN THIS COUNTRY and this guy still thinks he's right and a big ****, GET HIM AND CLOSE THIS COMPANY DOWN AND NEVER OPERATE AGAIN
