Giants Sign US$ 16.5 Billion Contract for Production of Processors for Robots and Autonomous Vehicles
Samsung and Tesla Close Billion-Dollar Deal for AI Chip Manufacturing, according to an announcement made this Monday (28). The South Korean giant confirmed the signing of a US$ 16.5 billion contract, but initially did not reveal the name of the client involved in the operation.
Just a few hours later, Elon Musk confirmed on his social media that Tesla is the partner in the project. The collaboration includes the development of new chips for applications in artificial intelligence, with production expected to begin in 2026 in the United States.
AI6 Chip to Be Produced in Texas and Will Equip Robots and Autonomous Cars

The chip named AI6 will be produced in a Samsung factory in the state of Texas, with production activities expected to start in 2026. According to Musk, the technology will be applied in humanoid robots like Optimus and in Tesla’s autonomous vehicles. There is also an expectation of use in data centers focused on generative AI.

The partnership will be valid until 2033, according to Samsung. The South Korean company hopes that the contract will be a strategic boost for its semiconductor sector, which has been losing ground in the global market to competitors like TSMC.
Financial Relief for Samsung Amid Chip Crisis
Samsung is facing a sharp decline in chip sales, especially following U.S. restrictions on semiconductor exports to China. The company is expected to record a 56% drop in operating profit for the second quarter, according to market projections.
The new agreement with Tesla could reposition the brand in the advanced manufacturing sector, especially given the growing demand for processors optimized for artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous driving.
Tesla Bets on AI to Overcome Chinese Competition

Tesla is also facing challenges in the automotive market, with a decline in demand for electric vehicles and the rise of Chinese competitors like BYD. Elon Musk’s bet is to diversify the company’s operations through emerging technologies such as intelligent robots and AI infrastructure.
The AI6 chip is part of this strategy, aiming to reduce dependency on external suppliers like Nvidia and increase control over the technological platforms that support the brand’s future products.
