The storage and offloading unit (FPSO), which will be named Almirante Tamandaré, will be the sixth FPSO in Búzios and the largest in Brazil, according to Petrobras. The FPSO will have a production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil and 12 million m3 of gas per day and will begin production in the second half of 2024.
Petrobras stated that it intends to contract directly with SBM Offshore, as it found that “at this moment” only SBM Offshore has the capacity to meet the technical requirements demanded by the Brazilian oil company.

“If and when an agreement is reached, SBM Offshore will inform the market,” SBM Offshore said on Tuesday (15).
“The other two units to be installed in Búzios, FPSOs P-78 and P-79, will be contracted through a bidding process,” Petrobras said. The two FPSOs will have the capacity to process 180,000 barrels of oil and 7.2 million m3 of gas per day and are expected to come into operation in 2025.
The SBM is building the FPSO Sepetiba, which will be deployed in another major oil field in the Santos Basin – the Mero field, also offshore Brazil.
Once completed, the FPSO will be leased to Petrobras for a period of 22.5 years. According to SBM’s second-quarter report last month, the FPSO was 25% complete in August.
