New Opportunities for Free English Courses in Maranhão

The State Department of Education (Seduc), through the Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Maranhão (IEMA), has opened 3,000 slots for free EAD English courses, which will be offered through the Lema Idiomas unit. Registration for the free courses provided by IEMA, which started this Monday (22) and will run until March 28, is intended for individuals aged 13 and older, currently attending the final years of elementary school.

IEMA Registrations and the Maranhão Professionalized Program

This is yet another initiative that integrates Maranhão Professionalized, a program created by the Government of the State of Maranhão, aimed at minimizing the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which aims to provide, in 2021, more than 30,000 slots for professional qualification in free courses and workshops for people from various regions of the state of Maranhão.

Registration to compete for slots in the free English courses offered by IEMA and SEDUC is entirely online. To register, the candidate must create an account in the system, providing their CPF, email, and creating an access password, and then fill out the electronic registration form available in the system, and submit it along with copies of their ID and CPF.

Number of Slots for the English Course Offered by IEMA and SEDUC

In total, IEMA is offering three thousand slots for the English course for the first semester of this year, consisting of: 1,500 slots for Basic Module I; 500 slots for Basic Module II; 500 slots for Basic Module III; and 500 slots for Basic Module IV.

The registration for the free English courses will be carried out exclusively online, from 8 AM on March 31 until 11 PM on April 4, also through the system available on the website of Lema. Students who do not choose slots in Basic Module I at the time of registration will need to take an English placement test to determine the Module/Level they will be enrolled in (Basic II, III, or IV).
