Integration of Smart Sensors and Long-Range Connectivity Promises to Increase Reliability and Reduce Operational Failures in Critical Environments
A strategic partnership is shaking up the industrial and offshore sector in Brazil. Nexio, a platform for digital products and services, and IBBX, a specialist in connectivity solutions and remote monitoring, announced the integration of technologies to predict failures and optimize maintenance in highly complex environments.
The collaboration combines smart sensors, wireless gateways, and the IBBX predictive analysis platform, creating a robust solution aimed at digitizing critical operations and increasing the reliability of equipment and systems. Furthermore, the project reinforces the advancement of digital transformation in the oil and gas sector.
Long-Range Communication Technology with High Efficiency
IBBX employs a proprietary technology that ensures robust connectivity over long distances, maintaining low costs and high efficiency.

According to the company, data transmission can reach over 1 km in open fields and up to 300 meters in environments with physical barriers or electromagnetic interference. Moreover, the protocol allows for the formation of dense private networks, requiring a minimal number of repeaters to maintain stable communication.
As a result, the potential for scalable wireless monitoring is expanded, which is essential for high-criticality industrial operations and for reducing risks in remote areas.
Practical Applications and Direct Benefits
The solution is applicable to any rotating equipment, from reducers to turbines, operating between 30 and 10,000 RPM. Although it is adaptable to different industrial segments, the initial focus will be on servicing the oil and gas market, especially in the offshore sector, where failure anticipation brings significant gains.
Among the main gains expected from the partnership are:
- Reduction of unplanned downtimes, identifying failures before they cause interruptions;
- Optimization of maintenance, shifting from a corrective model to a predictive one;
- Fewer field interventions, avoiding displacements and exposure of teams;
- Greater reliability of assets, with decisions based on continuous and accurate data.
According to Rodrigo Chamusca, executive manager of Digital Business and Technology at Ocyan — Nexio’s controller in partnership with consulting firm EloGroup — the initiative strengthens the ecosystem of digital solutions by uniting cutting-edge connectivity and advanced data analysis. Thus, he states that “we are increasing the value delivery to clients, focusing on reliability, operational efficiency, and sustainability”.

Continuous Monitoring and Proven Results
The IBBX Platform operates in a fully autonomous and uninterrupted manner, detecting patterns and identifying anomalies that indicate future failures. In this way, it allows for planned interventions, reducing downtime and preventing financial losses.
Cases already presented by IBBX demonstrate significant savings by avoiding severe failures and extending the lifespan of monitored assets. Additionally, this approach increases the predictability of operations and ensures decisions based on reliable data.
With this integration, Nexio adds another startup to its portfolio, which already includes Altave, Cumulus (USA), ConditionAll (Norway), Pyplok (Canada), Confirm8, Endserv, Protium Dynamics, Intelie, Dersalis, and Vidya (Ocyan’s investment). Thus, IBBX becomes the 11th member, strengthening the digital transformation strategy in the sector.
Perspectives for the Industrial and Offshore Sector
The combined use of smart sensors, long-range connectivity, and predictive analysis responds to a growing demand in the oil and gas sector for greater security, reliability, and efficiency.
According to experts, solutions like this can redefine the standards of industrial maintenance, reducing operational costs and enhancing the availability of critical assets. Therefore, the adoption of such technologies is expected to gain momentum in the coming years.
As a result, the introduction of this solution in the offshore environment should lead to more predictability in operations, risk reduction, and productivity optimization.
What do you think is more important for the oil and gas sector: to quickly invest in predictive monitoring technologies to improve efficiency or to advance gradually, ensuring total safety and team adaptation?
