Belga Marine and Miros Enhance System to Detect Oil Leaks in Offshore Platforms, Elevating Environmental Monitoring in Brazil.
The Brazilian offshore sector has taken an important step towards environmental innovation with the implementation of a new system for oil leak detection, developed by the Norwegian company Miros in partnership with the Brazilian company Belga Marine.
The technology, which is already in operation across several Petrobras platforms, incorporates advanced cloud-based monitoring features, allowing real-time data sharing with regulatory bodies and onshore operators.
Real-Time Monitoring for Oil Leaks
With over 250 Oil Spill Detection (OSD) systems already installed worldwide, Miros has brought to Brazil a system that enhances transparency and efficiency in environmental risk management.

Petrobras completes 1,300 hours of work and 15 km of subsea lines to connect the Búzios 90 well to the P-79 — the platform is ready to produce 180,000 barrels per day and is just awaiting ANP approval.
The new platform provides a secure and digital pathway for issuing alerts and reports in an impartial manner, promoting faster responses in the event of oil spills offshore.
According to Miros CEO, Marius Five Aarset, the technology upgrade represents a milestone for the industry:
“We are excited to deliver this innovative solution, which sets a new standard for digital environmental monitoring with secure and reliable data. Supporting clients in meeting their environmental obligations and contributing to the protection of the Brazilian coastline is a privilege.”
Belga Marine Reinforces Leadership in the Technological Advancement of the Offshore Sector
A strategic partner of Miros in Brazil, Belga Marine played a key role in integrating the technology with local operational needs.
Founded in 1981, the Brazilian company is a reference in solutions for navigation, communication, and naval automation, focusing on the demands of the Energy and Oil & Gas sectors.
For Alexandre de Carvalho, Head of Business Development at Belga Marine, the impact of the partnership goes beyond technological innovation:
“This advancement demonstrates the power of collaboration and innovation in tackling critical environmental challenges. As a Brazilian company, it is an honor to modernize our clients’ leak detection capabilities, promoting sustainable operations and protecting our coastline.”
Digital Transformation at the Center of Operations
With strong investment in process digitalization and integration via smart platforms, Belga Marine offers operators strategic real-time information, both on land and at sea.
The company utilizes local servers and cloud solutions to extract, organize, and present data in intuitive interfaces, enabling faster, safer decisions aligned with international environmental standards.
The combination of Belga Marine’s expertise with Miros’ innovation marks the beginning of a new era for offshore environmental monitoring in Brazil, strengthening the fight against oil spills and contributing to the development of a more efficient and secure sector.
