After Arriving in Our Country, She Will Proceed Directly to the Campos Basin for Drilling in Various Fields of the Shell 2018 Campaign

The Shell contracted the Catarina drillship belonging to Petroserv for 60 days to carry out interventions in the Campos Basin, with her arrival expected on Sunday or Monday (22 or 23 respectively), and work will begin in May and may be extended for a few more months if necessary. The intervention activities will take place in the Bijupirá-Salema and Parque das Conchas assets, where the fields of Abalone, Ostra, and Argonauta are also located. The drillship departed from the city of Las Palmas, Spain, towed by a gigantic tugboat. The departure occurred in March.

According to Shell, she will have 15 optional locations for intervention. Currently, the Bijupirá-Salema and Parque das Conchas fields produce about 10,000 and 45,000 barrels of oil per day, respectively, with the oldest field being produced since 1993 using the FPSO Fluminense platform. Arriving in Brazil, the semisubmersible Catarina will head directly to the Campos Basin, where all procedures for the release and admission of the unit by the Navy, Federal Revenue, and other government agencies will be completed. The contract for the drillship was finalized in mid-February.

In addition to the Catarina drillship, Shell has also initiated a chartering process to drill in the Gato do Mato and Gato do Mato do Sul assets, located in the Santos Basin. This acquisition was announced in early 2018, but negotiations have not yet been finalized. In fact, they are still evaluating some proposals, which will be for wells that will be drilled within a year.

There may or may not be additional hires for these units, what we do know is that a few months ago, CEPEM (Center for Business Psychology) conducted a major selection process for her (check the article here). We do not know if there are Brazilians coming along with this drillship, or if the workers have already integrated and are just waiting to board the unit; in any case, this movement in the Campos Basin will soon bring much joy to everyone, this we can guarantee.
