The Two Drillships from TransOcean Contracted in March by Petrobras to Operate in the Field Arrive in Brazil
In March, Click Oil and Gas reported that Ocean Rig (which was purchased by TransOcean), would sign a contract with Petrobras to drill in Mero, therefore the company has already arranged for the transfer of two of its rigs to Brazil.
The drillships Deepwater Mikonos and Deepwater Corcovado have just arrived, as announced by the company’s CEO, Jeremy Thigpen, during a conference with analysts last Tuesday (10/30).
The next step is the final preparations by Petrobras so that the equipment can start drilling in the Santos Basin in the second half of November.

Market Recovery
The CEO of TransOcean is optimistic about new contracts from Petrobras and believes that three more rigs will be chartered at the beginning of next year.
The Brazilian state company has already contracted six rigs, three with Constellation, two with Petroserv, and one with Ocyan. Regarding charter contracts, Petrobras still has two bids in progress, one for anchored rigs, which is at risk of being canceled, and another for one or more units capable of operating in water depths of 2,400 meters and 3,000 meters.
The growing demand from Petrobras for drilling rigs in the pre-salt in 2020 makes TransOcean believe in an expansion of the company in the country.
According to the TransOcean executive, “My guess is that a large part of the local capacity will be consumed, and international players will want assets with higher specifications in the market. I think this opens the door for us to increase our presence there (in Brazil),” he said.
