The Innovative Production Of Fossil Fuel-Free Steels By The Swedish Steelmaker Is A Highlight In The Sector.
A Step Towards Sustainable Steel: The HYBRIT Project
At a stunning ceremony in the wine country of Luiz Argenta, Flores da Cunha (RS), on October 4, the spotlight turned to SSAB, the pioneering Swedish multinational in high-strength steels. This celebrated steelmaker was crowned in the Innovation and Technology category at the Supplier Awards Randoncorp 2023. The reason? The revolutionary HYBRIT project, which promises to revolutionize the steel industry by producing it from iron ore completely free of fossil fuels. This remarkable advancement replaces conventional metallurgical coke with hydrogen, a monumental step towards greener steel production.
At the height of the event, which was an essential part of Randoncorp’s 2023 Supplier Meeting, nearly 200 representatives from 160 suppliers were in anticipation. With 81 projects submitted for consideration, SSAB‘s victory resonated as a testament to its innovative vision and commitment to sustainability.

This recognition drives us to continue promoting change and moving towards an ecological transition.”
Revisiting the solid relationship with Randoncorp, a powerhouse in the transportation sector with deep roots established for over 70 years, Michel Zveibil, Regional Sales Manager of SSAB, commented: “They started building trailers, and now they are one of the largest producers in the world. We supply them with our renowned steels, Hardox® and Strenx® 700CR, which are primarily used in their dump bodies. It’s a relationship based on innovation and quality.”
The victory of SSAB is not just an award, but a beacon for the steel industry, pointing to a future where innovation, technology, and sustainability go hand in hand.
