Few Know, But Brazil Has a Giant That Challenges Boeing and Airbus! Embraer Is the Third Largest Aircraft Manufacturer in the World and Is Revolutionizing Aviation with an AI-Powered Autonomous Airplane! Discover How This National Power Is Dominating the Skies and Shocking the Global Market!
When it comes to Brazilian billion-dollar companies, it’s common to remember names like Vale, Bradesco, and Natura.
However, there is a national giant that dominates the global aviation sector, but curiously, it doesn’t receive the recognition it deserves in Brazil: Embraer.
Embraer is the third largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, only behind Boeing and Airbus.

It has 156 thousand tons and impresses by housing the first high-seas water roller coaster: the Norwegian Aqua is 322 meters long, has a capacity for 3,571 passengers, and features dozens of restaurants, a spa, and bars.
The company not only produces commercial airplanes but also operates in strategic segments such as military, executive, and agricultural aviation.
Despite its global prominence, the brand is still underestimated by Brazilians.
The History of Aviation and Brazil
Aviation has a strong connection with Brazil.
Although the Wright Brothers are recognized as the inventors of the airplane, Brazilians argue that the title belongs to Santos Dumont, who performed the first powered flight without the help of catapults, as the Americans did.
With this history of innovation, Brazil became one of the protagonists in the global aerospace industry, being the birthplace of Embraer, a company that was born with the aim of making the country a reference in the sector.
The Early Steps of Embraer
The emergence of Embraer is linked to the Aeronautics Technology Institute (ITA) and the Research and Development Institute (IPD), established by the Aerospace Science and Technology Department to develop the national aerospace industry.
It was in these institutes that one of the most important projects in Brazilian aviation history emerged: the IPD-6504, a turboprop designed for regional flights, which was later named Bandeirante.
The airplane made its first flight in 1968 and became a commercial success, leading engineer Ozires Silva to found Embraer in 1969.
The Company’s Global Growth
In the following years, Embraer conquered the international market with efficient and affordable models. The Bandeirante quickly became popular, even in the United States, where it gained 13% of the regional market.
In the 1980s, the company launched the Embraer Brasília, one of the most advanced turboprops of the time.
In just a few years, the model became the most used regional aircraft in the world, being operated by companies in over 14 countries.
The Crisis and the Turnaround
Despite its success, Embraer faced a severe financial crisis in the 1990s after the failure of the Vector model, which generated massive losses.
The government tried to save the company through a merger with Boeing, but the solution found was the privatization of the company.
The turnaround happened with the launch of the ERJ-145, the company’s first commercial jet.
The model, with a capacity of 50 passengers, became an immediate success, being adopted by over 90 airlines in 40 countries.
The Strategic Role in Defense
Unlike other manufacturers, Embraer expanded its operations into military aviation.
Among its highlight projects are the EMB-312 Tucano and the A-29 Super Tucano, used in operations in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
Embraer also had an indirect role in conflicts, such as the Falklands War (1982), when its airplanes were leased to Argentina.
Additionally, the company’s aircraft were used by Colombia in the fight against paramilitary groups in 2008.
Leader in Strategic Segments
Today, Embraer is a world leader in the manufacture of jets with up to 130 passengers, surpassing Boeing and Airbus in this category.
Another major success is the Phenom 300, a compact business jet that has topped the list of the world’s best-selling aircraft for 12 consecutive years.
According to the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, more than 830 units of this model have already been delivered.
Innovation as a Trademark
Embraer is always investing in innovation. Recently, the company revealed a project for an autonomous airplane powered by renewable fuels, which eliminates the need for pilots.
The concept was presented in partnership with a Canadian company and could revolutionize the industry.
Another promising advancement is the flying car, an electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (eVTOL), which promises to transform urban transportation.
For experts, Embraer is one of the most innovative and successful companies in Brazil, but it still doesn’t receive the recognition it deserves in the country.
With a history marked by overcoming challenges, innovation, and global achievements, the company continues to strengthen Brazil’s name in the aerospace industry and consolidate itself as one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world.
What do you think about Embraer being so powerful on the global stage but still not receiving the recognition it deserves in Brazil? Do you believe the company’s innovation can change the future of aviation? Share your thoughts in the comments!
