With a 122.5 kWh battery and 1,156 horsepower, the Denza Z9 GT travels 1,036 km on a single charge, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, and recharges 40% in just 5 minutes

While most electric cars available on the market barely exceed 500 km of range, a Chinese brand has just put a model on the streets that travels 1,036 kilometers on a single charge.

To give you an idea of the distance, this is equivalent to leaving São Paulo and reaching beyond Curitiba — round trip — without stopping at any charger.

The Denza Z9 GT, from BYD’s premium subsidiary, was officially launched in China in 2026 and is already considered the electric car with the highest declared range in the world.

1,036 km: the highest range ever declared for a production electric car

The range of 1,036 km was certified by the MIIT — the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China — in the CLTC cycle.

In practical terms, the CLTC cycle is more optimistic than the European (WLTP) and American (EPA) standards, with a difference of 20 to 30%.

Even so, European tests by Quattroruote magazine confirmed over 600 km in the WLTP cycle — real range that already surpasses most rivals.

The secret lies in the battery.

The Z9 GT uses the BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, with a capacity of 122.5 kWh — almost double that of a Tesla Model 3 battery.

The version with a smaller battery, at 102.3 kWh, already reaches 820 km in the same cycle.

Compared to the previous Denza model, which reached 630 km, the new generation represents a 64% increase in range.

1,156 horsepower and 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds

The Z9 GT is not just about range. The top-of-the-line version delivers 1,156 horsepower distributed across three electric motors.

A front motor of 230 kW and two rear motors of 310 kW each work together to propel the electric car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.

The top speed is electronically limited to 270 km/h.

For comparison: the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which costs more than double in Europe, goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds with 1,034 hp.

The Tesla Model S Plaid delivers 1,020 hp and achieves the same sprint in 2.1 seconds.

The Z9 GT competes with both — for less than half the price.

  • Maximum range: 1,036 km (CLTC) / over 600 km (WLTP)
  • Battery: 122.5 kWh (BYD 2nd generation Blade Battery)
  • Power: 1,156 hp (three electric motors, AWD)
  • Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds
  • Top speed: 270 km/h
  • Ultra-fast charging: 10-70% in 5 minutes (1,500 kW Flash-Charging network)
  • Price in China: 269,800 to 369,800 RMB (~R$ 210,000 to R$ 288,000)

5 minutes to recharge what a gasoline tank would take to refill

One of the biggest obstacles to the adoption of electric cars has always been the charging time.

The Z9 GT tackles this problem head-on.

Connected to a 1,500 kW Flash-Charging station, the car recovers 10 to 70% of the battery in just 5 minutes — approximately 40 kWh of energy, enough for over 250 km.

A full charge up to 97% takes about 9 minutes.

This rivals the time a driver spends refueling gasoline at a station and paying the bill.

The technology works even in extreme temperatures of up to -30°C, although with reduced performance.

The limitation is that 1,500 kW stations are still rare — BYD is expanding the network in China, but outside the country, the infrastructure does not yet exist.

From the joint venture with Mercedes to Chinese dominance

Denza was born in 2010 as a partnership between BYD and Mercedes-Benz.

In 2023, BYD repurchased Mercedes’ stake and took over 90% of the brand, transforming it into its premium division.

The Z9 GT is the most ambitious product of this new phase — a luxury shooting brake with a wheelbase of 313 centimeters, European design, and 100% Chinese technology.

In Europe, the estimated price starts at 116,450 euros — about R$ 680,000 — positioning the model against the Mercedes EQS and the Porsche Taycan.

In China, however, the same 1,156 horsepower and 1,036 km of range start at R$ 210,000.

The price difference between the Chinese and European markets reflects tariffs, subsidies, and logistics — but the Chinese consumer today has access to the most advanced electric car in the world for a fraction of what Europeans would pay.

And Brazil? When will such cars arrive here?

The Denza Z9 GT has not yet been homologated in Brazil and there is no official forecast for its arrival in the national market.

However, BYD already operates several models in the country and opened its factory in Camaçari, Bahia, in 2024.

If the Z9 GT follows BYD’s export pattern to Latin America, the price in Brazil could exceed R$ 500,000 — still below the Porsche Taycan and the Mercedes EQS sold here.

For the Brazilian consumer who currently pays R$ 7 per liter of gasoline, the promise of an electric car that runs over 1,000 km without stopping sounds like science fiction.

But in China, it is already a reality.

What the numbers don’t tell — and why to be skeptical

The range of 1,036 km was declared in the CLTC cycle, which is known to be more generous than the European and American standards.

In practice, under real road conditions — with air conditioning, highway speeds, and temperature variations — the effective range may be between 450 and 550 km.

It is still excellent. But it is not 1,036.

Furthermore, the record is “declared,” not certified by a global independent entity like Guinness.

The extreme power of 1,156 horsepower prioritizes performance over efficiency — and the actual energy consumption per kilometer has not been officially disclosed by the brand.

Finally, the weight of the 122.5 kWh battery is estimated at nearly a ton, which increases the demand for minerals like lithium and cobalt — with environmental impacts that go against the “zero emissions” narrative.

Still, the Z9 GT represents a milestone. The question is no longer whether electric cars will have enough range — it is when the price will allow the rest of the world to access what China already offers for R$ 210,000.
