The INSS starts this Friday (24) the deposit of the first installment of the 13th salary for retirees and pensioners, with a schedule until May 8, while the second installment runs from May 25 to June 8, injecting R$ 78 billion into the economy, but BPC beneficiaries are excluded from the bonus.
The INSS (National Institute of Social Security) begins to deposit this Friday (24) the first installment of the 13th salary for approximately 35.2 million retirees, pensioners, and other insured individuals. The payment is the result of a decree signed by President Lula at the end of March, bringing forward the annual bonus that in previous years was deposited on different dates: in 2022 and 2023, the installments were paid in May and June, and in 2024 and 2025 they were paid in April and May. The INSS estimates that the two installments together represent more than 78 billion reais circulating in the country’s economy, a volume that represents a significant boost for commerce and services in the months of April, May, and June.
However, not all INSS beneficiaries will receive the payment. Those entitled to the 13th are those who in 2026 receive retirement, pension for death, temporary disability assistance, accident assistance, maternity salary, or incarceration assistance. BPC (Continuous Cash Benefit) and Lifetime Monthly Income beneficiaries are excluded from the annual bonus, a distinction that creates confusion among beneficiaries who do not always know which category they fall into. The inquiry about the release can be made through the Meu INSS website or app, or by phone at 135, with service from Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 10 pm.
When each INSS beneficiary receives the first installment of the 13th

The INSS payment schedule follows two variables: the final number of the NIS (Social Identification Number) and the amount of the benefit. Those who receive up to a minimum wage, equivalent to R$ 1,621 in 2026, have priority in the schedule and start receiving before beneficiaries with income above this amount. The first installment will be deposited between April 24 and May 8, and the second between May 25 and June 8.

This payment order is not random. The INSS distributes deposits over business days to avoid overloading the banking system and to allow the network of ATMs and agencies to handle the volume of withdrawals without crashes. For those who need to check the exact date of their deposit, the Meu INSS app shows the personalized calendar after logging in with CPF and password. Those without internet access can call 135 and provide their CPF to the attendant to obtain the same information.
Why not every INSS beneficiary receives the 13th salary
The confusion is frequent, but the rule is clear. The 13th salary from the INSS is paid exclusively to those receiving benefits of a social security nature: retirement in any form, death pension, temporary disability assistance (formerly sickness assistance), accident assistance, maternity salary, and prison assistance. These benefits are funded by contributions made throughout the insured person’s working life, and the 13th salary acts as an extension of the labor rights that the contributor had while active.
The BPC and the Monthly Lifetime Income, on the other hand, are assistance benefits, not social security benefits. The INSS is responsible for the payment operation, but the legal nature is different: they are intended for individuals over 65 years old and people with disabilities in vulnerable situations, regardless of whether they have contributed to social security. For this reason, the legislation does not provide for a 13th salary for these categories, which means that millions of BPC beneficiaries will not receive any additional payment in 2026, even though their monthly payments are processed by the same INSS that distributes the bonus.
The impact of R$ 78 billion of the 13th INSS on the economy
The volume of resources that the INSS puts into circulation with the anticipated 13th salary is significant. More than R$ 78 billion distributed between April and June represents an injection of income that spreads mainly through retail trade, the food sector, pharmacies, and service providers that cater to retirees and pensioners. In smaller cities, where the INSS benefit is often the main source of income for a significant portion of residents, the impact is even more concentrated.
The government’s anticipation of the payment has economic and political justification. Bringing forward the 13th salary to the first semester distributes consumption throughout the year instead of concentrating it in November and December, when the bonus would originally be paid, and generates a counter-cyclical effect by stimulating the economy in months that historically record lower commercial activity. For the 35.2 million retirees and other beneficiaries, the extra payment represents immediate relief for family budgets pressured by food inflation and the rising cost of medications and health services.
How to check the payment and what to do if the 13th INSS does not appear
The verification can be done through three channels. The most practical is the Meu INSS app, available for Android and iOS mobile phones, where retirees and pensioners log in with their CPF and gov.br password and view the payment statement with the dates and amounts scheduled for each installment. The second channel is the website meu.inss.gov.br, which offers the same functionalities. The third is the phone number 135, a free INSS line with human assistance that requires CPF information and confirmation of registration data.
If the first installment does not appear on the scheduled date, the beneficiary should check if the final number of the NIS corresponds to the day programmed in the calendar. If the date has passed and the amount has not been credited, the INSS’s guidance is to wait 48 business hours before registering a complaint through the app or by calling 135. Registration errors, judicial blocks, and administrative pending issues are the most common causes of delays, and in most cases, the regularization occurs without the need for in-person attendance at an agency.
And you, have you checked if your 13th installment has been released? Do you think it is fair that BPC beneficiaries do not receive the bonus? Leave your opinion in the comments.
