PB-394 Segment Destroyed After Flood in Paraíba’s Sertão; Highway, Still Under Construction, Links BR-230 to the District of Engenheiro Ávidos and is Fully Closed
Heavy rains hit the Sertão of Paraíba on Sunday (13), causing a section of the PB-394 road, still under construction, to break. The highway provides access to the district of Engenheiro Ávidos, in Cajazeiras, and was completely closed after waters from a creek flooded the area.
According to local residents, including councilman Alysson Lira, traffic was allowed to resume for a few hours but was interrupted again in the early hours of Monday (14). The affected section is near Sítio Cochos, which is also used as access to the Engenheiro Ávidos Reservoir.
The construction site was still under completion. The drainage system used for water runoff could not withstand the volume of rain, and the force of the flood destroyed part of the road. Videos and photos shared on social media show the road with large craters, preventing vehicle passage.

The PB-394 road links BR-230 to the district, being considered an important route for local residents. Paving works, which cover 14.1 kilometers, were resumed at the end of 2024, with an investment exceeding R$ 25 million.
The rupture of the section raises concerns about the quality of the work and its resistance to heavy rains, which have been more intense in the Semi-Arid region. So far, the Paraíba Department of Highways (DER-PB) has not officially commented on the case.
The community continues to await a response and the restoration of access, which remains closed.
