Sacha Calmon Defends That The Country Should Draw Inspiration From Britain’s Resistance To Nazism To Resist Economic Imperialism And Diversify Its Markets.

In an analysis, tax attorney Sacha Calmon argued that Brazil should adopt a firm stance against the tariff pressures from the United States. In an interview with CNN, he proposed a strong historical analogy: the country needs to resist with the same determination that Winston Churchill faced the Nazi regime during World War II.

A Historical Analogy: Brazil Against The US Like Churchill Against Nazism

During his participation on CNN 360º, Calmon drew a strong parallel. For him, Brazil’s determination not to yield to trade pressures must be the same as that demonstrated by Great Britain, under Churchill’s leadership, when facing the Nazi advance. The message is clear: the country must defend its economic sovereignty at all costs.

The Criticism of American Economic Imperialism

The tax attorney harshly criticized US trade policy. He compared it to the old British colonial strategy of “divide and rule”, which was historically applied in India. According to Calmon, the current scenario reflects a clash between unilateralism, or economic imperialism, and the multilateralism advocated by the institutions created in the post-war period.

Brics As A Power: The Numbers That Impress

Calmon highlighted the growing relevance of the Brics, the economic bloc that unites Brazil and other powers. He emphasized important data: the member countries are responsible for 33% of arable land and about 45% of global goods and services production. This collective strength, he stated, is a significant counterpoint to unilateral power.

What Is The Solution For Brazil? Diversify And Resist

In light of the American stance against important partners like Western Europe, India, China, and Brazil itself, the alternative is clear for Sacha Calmon. He states that “the only viable alternative for the country is to diversify markets and ‘tighten the belts'”. Submission to trade pressures, according to the tax attorney, is not an option.
