The Neighboring Country Decided to Reinforce Its Air Force with Renowned Brazilian Fighter Jets
The Uruguay has just made a significant choice to modernize its air force. According to the newspaper El País, the country has decided to acquire six A29 Super Tucano aircraft from Brazil, in a deal that will cost 100 million dollars. Let’s check the details of this purchase that promises to bring a new era for Uruguayan defense.
The decision of the Uruguay to buy the A29 Super Tucano was reported by sources from the Executive Power. The idea is to renew the modest fleet of the Uruguayan Air Force, which currently operates with 30 aircraft and 10 helicopters. The purchase, which can be paid over 10 to 15 years, will also include a used Brasília aircraft.
The Minister of Defense of Uruguay explained that these aircraft will be essential for patrolling the borders, especially in combating illegal flights from drug trafficking. This mission is already successfully performed by the Super Tucano of the FAB (Brazilian Air Force) and Colombia.

What Will the A29 Super Tucano Replace?
The new A29 Super Tucano will replace the seven A-37 Dragonfly jets, which have been in operation in Uruguay for many decades. These new aircraft will definitely bring the Uruguayan Air Force into the technologies of the 21st century, providing greater efficiency and safety in missions.
The article from El País highlighted that the A29 Super Tucano is a world leader in its category. Produced by Embraer, it has already received over 260 aircraft orders and more than 500,000 flight hours, of which about 60,000 were in real operations. This demonstrates the reliability and effectiveness of these fighter jets.
Previous Attempts and the Final Choice
Last year, a U.S. company was negotiating with Uruguay a package of aircraft that included second-hand Hawk 100 jets and T-27 Tucano planes, also valued at 100 million dollars. However, it seems that the Uruguayan government preferred the safer and already proven purchase of A29 Super Tucano.
It appears that the A29 Super Tucano has truly gained the trust of another country, ensuring more security and advanced technology for air defense.
