Volkswagen Invests R$ 1.5 Billion in Its Resende RJ Factory

Volkswagen Trucks and Buses Will Invest R$ 1.5 Billion in the Factory in Resende, Rio de Janeiro. The Resende Factory Employs Around Three Thousand Employees and Is the Global Center for the Company’s Truck Production and Development.

The announcement was made after a meeting between Governor Wilson Witzel, the Secretary of Economic Development and Job and Income Generation, Lucas Tristão, and the CEO of the company in Latin America, Roberto Cortes, last week in Berlin, Germany. With the new investment of R$ 1.5 billion, Volkswagen has already opened a second partial shift at the unit and generated 360 new jobs between January and February. According to Roberto Cortes, the production capacity at the Resende factory is 100 thousand units per year, operating in three shifts.

– We are ready to absorb the recovery of the Brazilian market – explained the executive

– Rio de Janeiro needs more industries. We will continue working to attract investments, generate jobs, and income in the State of Rio – said the governor.

– We are confident in bringing new projects to Rio de Janeiro and making our state a powerhouse again – stated Secretary Lucas Tristão.

The search for new opportunities in Brazil and abroad includes the mobilization of the entire authorized network of the Volkswagen Trucks and Buses and MAN brands, according to the company, with over 300 dealerships and importers.

The automaker has a line of more than 50 products tailored for over 30 emerging countries in the commercial vehicle segment.
In addition to the Resende factory, the automaker based in the Sul Fluminense region maintains an assembly line for its products in Querétaro, Mexico, and productive partnerships in Africa.
